ATTEMPTS TO SANITIZE CHRISTMAS

OCCUR IN PRIVATE AND PUBLIC SECTORS ALIKE

Catholic League president William Donohue today listed recent attempts to sanitize Christmas in both the private and public sectors:

Every year on New York’s Park Avenue the Helmsley Building nightly features a huge display of lights in the shape of a cross. This is the first year it has been discontinued.

GAP stores on the East Coast have banned Christmas decorations because they might make some feel “uncomfortable.”

For the first time in 30 years, a Rossmoor retirement community in Walnut Creek, California has banned a nativity scene.

The song “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel” has been censored from this year’s Old Town School of Folk Music holiday party in Chicago because some Jews labeled it anti-Semitic.

All religious songs were forbidden by the Los Angeles Unified School District and replaced by tunes about snowballs.

Teachers in a public school in Sacramento, California have been told they are not allowed to utter the word “Christmas.”

Virginia Tech has issued a memo to all university employees warning that they “do not promote one cultural/religious tradition at the exclusion of another” and that they should “make all students and employees feel included.”

Ash Wednesday

That really makes me angry. For God's sake, this isn't Communist Russia. Or is it?

What ever happened to freedom of religion?

And, what is everyone so afraid of?

If a person doesn't agree with something, that doesn't mean any trace of it has to be obliterated.

the newest issue of National Catholic Register has an article about Red Cross stores in the U.K. banning anything related to Christmas.

Staffs at the 430 Red Cross shops in Britain have been told not to set up Nativity scenes, Christmas trees or decorations w/ Christian symbols because they might offend Muslims and other non-Christians

of course, this is absurd, but at the same time, i kinda understand where the Red Cross spokesperson is coming from:

"The British Red Cross has not 'banned Christmas'"he said. "Our volunteers and staff are welcome and actively encouraged to celebrate their own particular religions and festivals whenever and however they please." He addded that the international organization had a "unique role" in ensuring the safe passage of civilians, medical staff, messages and relief supplies during conflicts. "To do successfully, to be trusted by all sides, it is essential that we are not seen to be linked with any political groups, religious organizations or particular communities" Young said.

what do u guys think?

I think this is part of the same overwhelming backlash against Christianity that has been going on for almost a decade now. Christmas is just the lastest victim. It started with "new age" garbage and now we all have to be pc and inclusive otherwise we might be stepping on someone else's feelings.

To which I say, ttttthhhhhhhpppppptttttt. Too bad.

See, if we weren't Christian, we could start our own backlash. Like, veils and turbans offend us as well as burpas, mennorrahs and dredels. We could go on to the next level and take it to court so that we would never have to be exposed to these symbols that represent grief to us or are completely contrary to everything we believe. We could take the pagans to court to expunge our world of pentagrams and other various and assorted imagery.

But we don't because we're Christians and that wouldn't be the Christian thing to do.

So, we should all have Nativity scenes in our private front yards while we still can. We should all insist on playing religious Christmas carols on our private stereo systems while we still can. We should all insist on sending out religious Christmas cards to EVERYONE we know (and if it offends, we'll see if they really say anything about it). And, most importantly, we should PRAY for this evil screwed up world.

Ya'll asked for an opinion. There ya go. :ninja: :wall:

I'll go along with that.

Long form: 1 Cor. 5:5 "I hand him over to Satan for the destruction of his flesh, so that his spirit may be saved on the day of the Lord"

Short form: Does anyone have a picture of Archie Bunker givin the raspberry?:lol:

What's so offensive about Nativity scenes, Christmas trees, etc.? It's not like we're putting up big no-smoking X's over Muslim symbols. That's like saying that dressing in traditional African garb in America is offensive to Americans because it shows that they're a part of a different culture and maybe even *gasp* belief system. Grr.
