Hajj a Muslim Pilgrimage in the US

So, my kids were invited to a birthday party at The Mall of America's Camp Snoopy today. We got there and we noticed an unusually large number of Muslims there. Now, it's not unusual to see some Muslims there (we have a large Samoli community here)... but my friend and I were starting to notice non-Somali Muslims... Many, many, many of them. We were trying to figure out what was going on-- lots of school aged children were with them. So, we kinda figured maybe it was a fieldtrip for the Muslim homeschooling group... But there were just sooooo many-- I'd guess 80% of the people there were Muslims. And they are really decked out. The men were in suits, little kids all dressed up etc. So, my friend finally asked someone what the deal was. Turns out it's Hajj-- the Muslim pilgrimage thing. I guess it's a holiday. I always thought they were supposed to make a pilgrimage to Mecca. But I guess if you can't make it that far, the amusement park is the next best choice.

It was really interesting though. Lots of different people.

Some might say that a gigantic mall would be a suitable "Mecca" for America....

lol, I live a half hour from the Muslim capital of America. I see lots of Muslims everyday, I often drive past Mosques, i used to live near one. Some cities in SE Michigan even have the call to prayer, 5 times a day blaring Arabic "Allah Akbar...." etc....

What was especially weird was when they all started walking around in a circle around the "Kite Eating Tree" swing ride... tossing pebbles and such...

I kid.

Hey points to you for even being able to make such a joke, shows some knowledge of the nature of the Hajj.
