In my opinion, flu is achy, feverish, tired.... maybe congestion.

Colds are runny and/or stuffy noses, sneezing...

Does a sore throat and cough come into the matter of which is which?

What if one has a subnormal temperature?

Temperature is generally the distinguishing factor.

You never have a fever with a cold. Which is why it's called a "cold."

Still, those don't reach down where coughs spatter against the tenderized bottom of one's raw throat.
<-fears bad sore throats.

If you're of legal age, I suggest warming a small glass of whiskey and adding a teaspoon of sugar and slice of lemon. It can work wonders. Also, are you anti cough drop? Menthol lyptus is like a miracle drug. And, the saltwater gargle can work if you do it every two to three hours. I hope you don't get a sore throat.

Well, I haven't quite had a sore throat like that since sophmore year in the dorms. I'll probably get a sore throat in the next 3 to 4 months or so. I always get sick in spring.

A sore throat like that is often the first stage of a cold or a flu. You'll have to see what it turns into to tell which it is.
