Fidei Defensor
I just saw, from a link on Spiritdaily, that they are in a big debate on baptistboards about whether it is appropriate to call Mary the Mother of God. Heh, so silly. Dont they know that we already figured this out a long time ago?
MilesChristi
Jesus is God. Mary is the mother of Jesus. ....therefore, Mary is the mother of God. it seems pretty obvious to me, but it'll be interesting to see what they conclude over on the baptist board. Fidei Defensor
Interesting. So far, the only conclusion they have reached now is arguing whether Jesus really had a mother, and that Mary was only a "vessel" and a "pot" to transfer Jesus to earth.. They need prayers.. Its always so interesting how they treat everyone else from the bible with respect (like Paul), but they are very quick to treat Mary like a piece of carp. I like how one of the posters put it, "The focus of the term, Mother of God is on Jesus, not Mary. This term was not rejected by Luther, Calvin or Zwingli. It is more Romophobia." phatcatholic
i was just at a forum that was so Romophobic that they refused to even call themsevles "Christians" b/c that's what Catholics have historically called themselves. i mean, they straight-up resented it. they justified their stance by saying that none of the believers of Christ in the bible called themselves Christians and that the Roman soldiers used it as an insult. its all very sad..... avemaria40
I'm not surprised, in the book Rome Sweet Home, Kimberly mentions how two ministers' wives changed the words at the end of "What Child is This" from "the babe the Son of Mary" to "the babe, the Son of God" Mary was called "blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb!" by Elizabeth in Luke but ppl don't even realize that! What next, are they going to rip on the New Testament because the Catholic Church put it together? I can understand ppl thinking of Mary as a woman of God but not believing her to be what we Catholics believe her to be, but I really don't understand this. Really strange
Thy Geekdom Come
The Church declared Mary the Mother of God at the Council of Ephesus in order to affirm Christ's human nature (human mother, ergo, human nature)...these Baptists are a logical step from denying Christ's humanity and thus, by the way, His salvific sacrifice.
