Paladin D
I already have the Da Vinci Code with pictures (the expensive version... it was a gift) and I have the Hoax.
Then why see the movie? It'll either be exactly the same as the book, or it'll have lesser content (which in most novel-film adaptions, this is the case).

Sam, you surprise me, on one side you're very traditional and on the other your supporting a motion picture which perpetuates gnostic myths and tries to attack the heart of the Catholic faith by playing to anti-Catholic predjudices? The Da Vinci Code may as well be a 17th century anti-Jesuit German pamphlet for all the factual information and impartiality contained therein. ironman
If Christians actually stepped up, and did a pocketbook boycott where they just didn't go to see it, Hollywood wouldn't be putting out such Garbage........ Instead some of you guys will go see it, to "investigate" Hollywood only responds to money, and some of you guys are falling for it.... Dan Brown starts off in his book stating that all of his writing is true, that's a scam Catholic answers has books to counter to the movie and book..... You guys can do whatever you want, I just protest with my pocketbook......
Diamond
I'm going to see it. To me, The Da Vinci Code isn't a serious threat to anything. The only possible threat is that someone would watch it/read it as more than Fiction and therefore adopt the novel as something of a history book, pointing us towards the truth. The danger is NOT in those who will read it, become interested, and look into literature regarding "The Da Vinci Code" because there simply isn't any literature that offers convincing evidence of its truth (because there is none). Anyways, I believe that the two cases I mentioned above are both aberrations from the norm. Most people, at least as far as I can see, will watch "The Da Vinci Code" the same way they watched National Treasure: for entertainment, not historical value or accuracy. I can garuntee no one watching National Treasure has now grew to believe that the Free Masons buried priceless artifacts somewhere in Washington D.C. under a historical landmark. It was just fun to watch. Frankly, I enjoy Ron Howard as a director, Tom Hanks as an actor and Dan Brown as an author. I don't see this as affecting my walk with Christ and I don't see it as supporting something that will negatively affect others. I see it as what looks to be an entertaining movie.
I agree that a lot of people who do watch the film will see it just for it's entertainment value; however, believe it or not, there are also many who actually do believe these conspiracy theories. The novel itself is fiction, but it presents it's claims as "facts" (like the Left Behind series, it's fiction, but claims it's basis is based on biblical facts). I've personally never experienced anyone coming up to me, and using the Da Vinci Code as an example of how Catholicism is evil, or our portrayal of Jesus is inaccurate; but friends and those who I associate with, have. I've seen television programs on channels such as Discovery, TLC, History Channel, etc, which investigate these conspiracy theories (such as if Jesus had relations with Mary Magdeline, or if He was really divine), it's shocking how they come to these conclusions. If there is any way to discrimate the Catholic Church, and Christianity in general, they will do it.
Diamond
I'm not very schooled on these programs doing this. Do they actually arrive at the conclusion that Mary was the wife of Jesus or some other similar idea? I watched a lot of The History Channel during the holiday season and found it to be pretty satisfying, it explored a little more into some dubious writings ("James'" Gospel, etc) than it should have, but to me it was a lot like a news report should be. Didn't come to any certain conclusions or really try to SWAY the viewer, just investigated every angle of the matter. Several of my friends have read The Da Vinci Code and none of them took it too seriously, though I wouldn't be surprised if there are some who do. By the way, I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan. I'm currently rereading Republic Commando before the second one comes out. The Swarm War is on my desk, awaiting reading as soon as I finish RC for the second time? Are you a fan of the novels? PM me if you feel like it, I don't want to take this thread off track.

It's dangerous because it creates doubt amongst viewers who are searching for answers.
By the way, I'm a HUGE Star Wars fan.
