If you haven't already, go reant the original movie made back in the day. It's out on DVD and it is wonderful. There is a great scene where this woman comes to the door and asks Mrs. Gilbreth if she would like to start a Planned Parenthood chapter in their town and she calls all 12 children into the room, and the woman is just horrified. Also, rent or read the sequel Bells on Their Toes. I think the books are both out of print but you can find them used. Best of all, the Gilbreth family of the original were real.
There is also a remake out right now of the sixties classic Yours, Mine, and Ours. Again, go rent the original. It has Lucille Ball and Henry Fonda in it and is just a great family movie and demonstrates how loving and rich large families are.
Peace,
Amanda

Yeah, they had success remaking an old movie, and because it's a family movie, they figured they'd milk people for extra $$$ by making a cruddy sequel...

What's new? :ohno:
Did she make any offending comments about the Church? I don't see the big deal about the learning to act comment.

???? Common dust? It was all a big joke, her Catholic upbringing. I don't recall everything she said but it was all making her Catholic upbrining a big joke. Nothing positive about it.

Huh? I mean, I didn't see it, but Conan O'brien is a comedy show, and Bonnie Hunt is a comedian/actress. I've seen Conan joke about being Catholic before, and wasn't offended at all. There are certain Catholic stereotypes that are funny. The Simpsons has made jokes about Catholicism. It's funny. The typical stereotype of mass is that it is boring. Heck, until I understood what was going on, it was boring.

I mean, I'm sure if you took it as anti-Catholic there must have been a lot more said, but the example you provided seemed pretty mild.

I want to see this movie, as the first one (the remake of the original) was awesome. Besides the comment about the vasectomy at the beginning, the movie was very pro-children and pro-family. Steve Martin is genius.

I don't know, it just seems that it's gatting bashed already and it hasn't even been given a fair chance. I don't understand why this movie, out of all the horrible things out their right now, is getting pre-maturely critisized here.

I mean, if we determined what movies we watch by the actors, then we shouldn't support The Passion of the Christ because of Monica Belluci's getting naked all the time.

I guess in comedy anything goes. This interview was about the movie and she made derogatory comments about the Catholic Church and in particular THE MASS!
But perhaps you should reread my opening post. I didnt' tell anyone else what to do. I just said there is 9 tickets less they are going to sell. Your criticizing me when you didn't hear her comments. What makes you my judge? I found them offensive. I am okay with some Catholic humorr but these were beyond that in my opinion. They were degrading to the Mass. Go ahead dust and see the movie. Go aheand and sweep anti-catholic biggotry under the rug. I have no desire to see the movie where I would have before. She just turned me off to it with her nonsense Do what you want. Your a big boy.

I would have recommended the first movie even with the part of the duaghter sleeping upstairs with her boyfriend and then living with him because the take on it was good. The father just about killed the guy. I'm not going to see this one and neither is my family and I could care less if you think I'm being a hypocrit over it or whatever you think.
I saw it tonight. I agree with dUSt. People need to lighten up. BTW - not at all a bad sequel.

This thread is not about the movie. I'm sure it's fine. Yes, of course we should all lighten up and let the media contrinue to trob upon our faith and make statements about our most holy sacrifice of the Mass as if it should be the object of jokes. NOT! I have a sense of humor but not when it comes to the Mass.
Hunt, the mother in the movie was on.  All she did was diss the Catholic Church.

We liked the first one but this one is off the list.  That's 9 less tickets they'll sell.

So, do you choose all the movies that you watch based on the belief sets of the actors involved? Do you boycott all movies with Scientologists in it? While this might be a good move when John Travolta is involved, I'm sure there are a few decent flicks out there with individuals who hold differing/insulting/obscene views....

I said I choose not to go. I am hardly a boycott and have not called for one. I simply stated my opinion about what I heard her say. And yes I do choose movies based on who is in them at times. Why shouldn't I. Why does everyone think they have to diss my choice. She's a Catholic dissing the mass. I have alot less time for that then a scietologist who may be in ignorance. I'm not going to go to her movie. Do what you like cow. This is into a debate thread yet even dust is debating me. Isn't this open mic? But you guys seem to like attaking my view. Go tell it to someone who cares.

There is definitly a differance between holding beliefs and mocking others beliefs.

Ash Wednesday

I could understand if Bonnie was making remarks about going to mass from the viewpoint of an adolescent (I still think of me as a child hating having to go to mass at 8 a.m. and wanting to fall over in the pew because it was so early...), or if they were raised in the Catholic faith in a very strict manner devoid of a lot of love and joy -- like my father -- he still practices for the most part, but he is somewhat cynical at the same time. (You could call his faith "complicated"...) I feel sad when he says some of the things he does, but at the same time I don't feel in a place to judge him because I didn't grow up in the same environment as him. I have to admit some of the things he says make me laugh, like him grumbling about "getting my @$$ chewed out by some nun 'cause I lit the altar candle wrong..."

I knew Bonnie Hunt was Catholic but I've wondered whether or not she practices. Hopefully God will touch Bonnie's heart in a special way. And other Catholics as well, including my dad.

Thess, I don't think you're in the wrong for not wanting to watch the movie. Especially in consideration that on a practical level, 9 movie theater tickets is not a price tag to sneeze at these days. For me to watch something in the theater it's got to be something really great.
