Gregorian Chant:

cappie

In my Church the entire liturgy is sung, and not just by the priest and the choir, but by the whole congregation as well.

I want to see chant come back, but I also want to see the silence of the Latin Rite return with it! Too many masses have no silence because the music overrides periods where silence would be appropriate.

Well, the US is an annoyingly large place and these things take time. But believe me (or don't - in which case check out NLM and the Musica Sacra forums), the tide of people's attitudes is turning in your country. Different people are at different places: some are just figuring it out, others are (trying to - with all the obstacles they face) introducing it in parishes, others go to chant workshops, courses, colloquia, conferences, you name it, and Mr. Tucker's seemingly heading up a campaign to overturn the copyright mess.

Check out NLM for some photos and reports of the Winter Intensive held in San Diego last week. The revival is taking a long time...but it's happening.

I would have to respectfully disagree. I have been to chant conferences where people come from California and Colorado ect to particiapte in a worshop to learn and teach chant. The annual Sacred Music colloquiem has had record numbers (so much so that had to change location) for the past three years. I am at a school with about 20-30 SACRED MUSIC MAJORS These people will inform others who will in turn form others.

And that gives me hope. :)

Okay, here's the deal. A few things factor in your situation:
1. Awesome. Our entire Liturgy can be sung. We have problems with priests not wanting to learn. But hey, at least they're still dispensing the sacraments. That's why I go to mass.
2. Your congregations are relatively smaller. And most have been Oriental their entire life. And they care. They know the music inside out.

There. I'm done ranting. Now back to saving the Latin tradition... or considering joining the east. Not sure which...

Yeah. I'm one of those infectious ones who wants to get into a liturgy and start turning things inside out

Me too. Only try doing it in Dutch. Adapting chant tones is...interesting.
