Contemporary covers of Christmas songs are evil

If I hear another one of the poppy-sounding covers of "O Come All Ye Faithful," "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," or "We Three Kings" on the radio again I will tear my hair out. Why won't they play something that sounds like its supposed to!?

Worse still, I'll probably have to listen to this dumb stuff at mass on Christmas.

I hate the Pop-ish Christmas songs, most of them are horrible. However, I've heard a FEW contemporary-styled Christmas songs that sounded nice.

It all depends on how you do it.

What I hate worse than the too poppish sounding ones are the carols that are completely different rhythm and melody... the words might be the same, but it's not.

I also hate the "let's slow this baby waaaaaay down so slow that no one can sing along..." sultry carols... BLEH!!!!

AAaaaaaaalllll....... all is caalmmmmmm and Aaaaaallll..... all is briiiiiiiiiiight.....

Carols are for everyone. Please don't make them "your own."

The Christmas albums I have are pretty traditional, although some of them include tastefully done new arrangements/new carols, which I really love. I tend to stay away from poppy stuff in general, though.

Although I do have a few pop groups that I'll sing along to in the car. By myself. :ninja:

I think I have heard over 10,000 versions of "Carol of the Bells"...

I am amazed though, how long these songs have lasted.

I think "O Holy Night" reigns surpreme of all carols.

My wife loves the classic versions of the Christmas carols, and so do I. But I also like other versions of songs if they are done well. I heard a CD called "Christmas Regrooved" the other day and it rocked. It was the Christmas carols redone in the vein of electronica. Some of them were badly done, but for the most part of was neat.

No one.

Trans-SIberian Orchestra is an amazing group. The only non-traditional christmass songs I will listen to. All these new popish ones are bad.

Well, my wife doesn't really like it. But she obviously doesn't know what she's talking about! HA HA HA.....

I must say, I really like BNL and Sarah McLachlan's version of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen/We Three Kings. It's been my favorite since it first came out a few years ago. It's not overly poppy, though.
