motorcycle helmets

Not considering the negative impacts on community health care, should motorcyclists who do not wear helmets be fined?

Umm, Depends on whether there's a mullet involved or not?

:idontknow:

As far as I can tell, there's no reason to wear a helmet if it's not for safety.

Hey, what about the positive impact on community health care?

All the EMTs and ER docs I know call the un-helmeted bikers "organ donors."

Yes, so that I am not tempted to ride lidless. I'm in Illinois, a no-helmet law state, and in my neighborhood the helmeted riders are in the minority. In most other states they are fined. Obviously, I'll allow for some common sense exceptions (moving a few places in a parking lot, or if it is stolen).

Besides, if they are not required, I am concerned that the insurance companies will simply refuse to insure in those few states that have no helmet laws. I've been hearing that some are either refusing to insure sportbikes or they are raising the rates to astronomical levels, and insurance companies sometimes may use helmet usage as an underwriting guidline and rating factor.

Ah...the ABATE slogan....but it brings up an interesting point:

How many on PM ride? Besides myself and Socalscout, that is.

I ride horses.. :(

oh, and I wouldn't be caught dead wearing a helmet.

I've been tossed around by a crazed untrained horse and it wasn't that bad. I just had a headache for a few days.

The real question is: should bull riders be fined for simply riding bulls?

I've ridden a few times with friends. Love it, but don't have a bike of my own.

I'm pretty sure we don't have a helmet law in Indiana. I've ridden both with and without. I like without better; I also like riding a bicycle without a helmet better, although sometimes I chose to wear one for safety purposes. Helmets impair the joy of the ride ... I just love the feel of the wind in my hair, I suppose.

Thanks ... I suppose I haven't heard about it because I've done all my riding since turning 18.

It reflects the demogarphics of my neighborhood and some of the local hangouts the local squids frequent...

umm.... since you're a Church Scholar you should probably protect your head. A mind is a terrible thing to waste...

I did competitive equestrian sports for a few years and one of my very good friends suffered a brain injury in a jumping competition. Sometimes, even the best riders fall and hurt yourselves, and so I would always urge people to wear helmets, regardless of what you're riding.
