Paladin D
Jesus said his followers would be hated because of him. And since the Catholic Church, not Protestantism, is His Church, it's only natural that it would be hated so bad. I agree. Not to say that Protestant churches don't get persecuted, but us Catholics not only have to deal with non-Christians... we also have to deal with Christians as well. CatholicAndFanatical
nah, you can tell the difference in Persecution. protestant churchs arent as visible as the Catholic Church. We are on a hill that cannot be hidden.

Muschi
Although I initially intended to address frozencell first, Norseman82, I just gotta ask. Where did you get that avatar? Every time I see it, I can't help but laugh. But after reading this thread, the thought of the Pope involved in a notoriously bloody sport,(hockey) seems appropriate after all! Ok, now.....Frozencell: Welcome home!!! I was raised on Chick literature and fell for the "Alberto" series "hook, line, and sinker"! I believed it up until two years ago. (I'm 34). It took a moment of despondency over what the heck WAS the correct interpretation of the Bible anyway? I was brought up Pentecostal but when I got depressed and seriously considered giving up Christianity altogether, I thought I would at least pray one more prayer. I asked God, if he REALLY cared then He would have to show me His truth because I was tired of trying to find it and I frankly told Him that I was about to give up. After this prayer, I still sat there thinking about things in general when I remembered that a thought had occurred to me a year prior to this experience that since I was baptized a Catholic, maybe I should check out what the Catholic Church teaches from a CATHOLIC source! - duh, go figure! lol. Well, to ME it was a novel thought! Anyway, I left a message on the Cathedral RCIA line in my city, and then forgot it until the director of the program called me the next day. From that time on, I didn't look back. There were so rough moments and scary times, such as am I really doing the right thing? I'm not condemning myself to hell am I? I gradually and somewhat quickly though, began to learn that Catholicism is Christianity with sanity!!! - No more guess work over which pastor was right, no more guess work over what Scripture meant by baptism, etc. you name it! So, thanks for sharing your story because it just strengthens us and builds us all up. A thread for "Urban Legends"? YEAH!!!! I'd LOVE to see that!!! - God bless all! - Muschi

Hi, Muschi! Just wanted to say that I am so sorry you were so misled and lied to with all that Chick literature! I had a terrible experience when I was a child with an anti-Catholic Baptist woman. I met her at 11 (very impressionable) and she immediately honed in on me when she found out I was a Catholic. I was told everything you can think of.. Demons haunted my house and lived in my room, my entire family was going to hell if we didn't leave the Church, that I should stand up in the middle of Mass and say that the priest was spewing lies, that the end of the world was coming within five years and I would be left behind, and all manner of things. I was too scared to sleep at night, because, you know, the Devil was in my room. It was painful to go through. I would beg my Mom and Dad to leave the Church and cry for hours when they wouldn't because I thought that meant they were going to hell. Anyhow, she would give me Chick literature, and I have never read anything so disgusting in my life! How could anyone actually think that about the largest Christian demonination in the world? Bad stuff. I am so glad you found your place in the Church! My husband is in the process of becoming Catholic, but truly in his heart, he already is. And I have never seen him so on fire with his faith before this. What a great God the Lord is! Makes me so happy! :D
EcceNovaFacioOmni
Does it seem to you that these anti-Catholic websites, run by Protestants, tend to make it seem like Protestantism is one church fighting Catholicism? All I see are "refutations" (laff) of "Catholic" beliefs. Don't they care about "saving" their other Protestant brethren? I just don't get why Catholicism takes the hits while Protestants think they have some kind of alliance. Wake up! You're 30,000 churches are NOT the same! I have yet to see lets say for example a Baptist site taking on Methodism. What's the deal?

MC Just
Yeah well It's St. Peter who was the First Pope who Jesus gave the keys to the kingdom of heaven to, not every tom, Johnsonville brat and harry who picks up a bible.
EcceNovaFacioOmni
If they're so keen of "saving" us, why don't they convert other Protestants?
littleflower+JMJ
easy, many of them dont think of us as christians. but as something bad....as catholics. at ncyc i remember what one speaker said.. "jews know we (catholics) are christians, even athiests know we are christians, but its some of our own separated brothers and sisters that do not." :(
Muschi
MrsFrozencell- I'm sorry that YOU had to go through such a horrible experience by being told that demons lived in your room! - Ridiculous!! The sad thing is this; many Baptists are so enthusiastic about their faith, and as far as they are concerned, they think that they are doing us "poor, heathen," Catholics a favor by trying to "convert" us. Thedude- Right on!!! God bless all! - Muschi :cyclops:

He's getting ready to cross-check some heretics!!!! Seriously..... One of my former goalies sent it to me. The pope is very much into sports, and I read that he used to be a hockey goalie growing up in Poland.
