HomeTeamFamily
that being said, i think its completely reasonable to punish her
annie
Yes, and we were very clear as to what was not permitted. Obviously she could not get it professionally done because she is not 18. So, she knowingly defied us, and I think it was a bit risky.
zabbazooey
well at least it was just her ear...
annie
Aside from parts unmentionable here, I wish it had been somewhere else, as the ear cartilage is very poorly perfused, and there is a high incidence of very serious infection which is quite difficult to treat. I would take a navel any day over ear cartilage
Socrates
Cut off her ears! (Seems a fitting punishment.)

franciscanheart
it was risky to do it on her own... i had mine done professionally and still opted to take it out for fear of infection. ((well that and my mom didnt know about it either - yes i am a bad bad kid))..... just dont pull it out. anything but that.
annie
We calmly talked to her, and she agreed she was wrong to do it. I copied a bunch of articles on the risks of cartilage piercing. We decided she should remove it at the doctor's, and not wear it again. Her punishment is being mulled over by us and by her tonight, to be decided tomorrow. She did a good job acting remorseful, but I know she is just bummed she got caught. The articles are scary enough, and making a doc appt to remove it and check for infection might strengthen our point of the seriousness of it. I hope it will heal! Thanks everyone for your input! shortnun
As for a punishment, the worst punishments I ever had were when my parents made ME come up with them. You can't be too easy on yourself b/c your parents won't take you seriously. But at the same time, you don't want to be too hard on yourself. It was torture..... that having been said, it's a blessing that you and your daughter are able to talk (even if it isn't always civil and she sometimes defies you). Also, I'm glad to hear you wanted to educate her about the choice she made and that she'll be seeking medical attention to ward off any infection. Blessings to you and your family.
