In the best example of Christian charity I can come up with, tomasio is not gloating, he's pointing out an ideal, into which he has located himself, but which has not yet reached the entire world.

Going to see some units in the buildng(s) tomorrow after the (in-building) daily mass. :woot:

I misspoke earlier; the church is not a block away. It's across the street.

Quickie update:

The building is ummmmm....

Perfect.

This is very weird. I don't think it's ever happened before in the history of real estate. At least, not in my history of real estate. I once drove all over the country looking for what I wanted, and everything, everywhere, was disappointing. Not only did this building meet my (always unreasonable) expectations, I learned many cool things I wasn't aware of.

:ninja:

(I'll give details if anyone's interested, but I imagine they're pretty dull.)

Prayers! :sign: And details...

(I am fairly certain you know which condos I'm talking about, if you don't by the end of this post let me know and I'll PM you.)

The daily mass really is in the buildling. Right off the lobby, in the party room. The coat rack has vestments on it. The residents -- even the non-Catholic ones who don't seem real clear about what is going on -- are very pround of having offered space to the church, because we're the big snazzy building, and we should be good to our neighbors! IIRC, the church will be closed for at least a year.

The doorman was super nice, very polite, and lots of fun to talk to. The building has very high security. The doors are locked if the doorman ever steps away. There are many security cameras, and given the location, the police :busted_blue: constantly circle the block. Not that I'm especially concered about safety, but I really hate random people being able to knock on my door. The doorman even offered to lie and say you're not home if your mother-in-law shows up...

The building has sprinklers, and a "Class A" fire rating (whatever that means) which apparently gives super-low insurance rates. But the fire marshal inspects your condo a couple times a year!

There has never been a complaint for noise. The majority of residents are little old widows, and many of them go to Florida for the winter. So it was pretty quiet there.

A long-time resident and condo board member stopped to pick up his newspaper and chatted with my husband for a while. In under 5 minutes he was trying to talk husband into taking a soon-to-be vacated position on the board. He gave us lots of good information, that a realtor never would.

I had been concerned about the shared laundry facilites, located on each floor, but it turns out they're free. You can have your own in your unit if you really want, but no one ever does.

There's a special deal with the owner of the biggest health club in the city: free membership for a year, and $125/year after. Normally it costs $800/yr. The health club is a couple miles away, though, so there's a space in an office buildling across the street with weights and cardio machines.

We stopped and had lunch in the attached mall, which was yummy. There's a coffee shop, a few lunch places, one snazzy restaurant, and a few other stores. Also free wi-fi.

The long time resident mentioned that the units haven't been selling for much lately, so we should be sure to bargain hard. The whole downtown is being redone these last few years, though, so I expect there will be more demand soon.

After we'd looked at the units, and our realtor had left, the doorman mentioned that there were some condos "for sale by owner" that he could get us in touch with. I suspect these are "for sale to the right people".... so we'll call back next week. Hmm.

There are only two issues. The biggest is paying for it. While it's quite inexpensive it's still more than my current (paid for) house is worth, and so would require a mortgage. Which I am sure we can get, but being able to make the payments would be nice too. :topsy: Also, the units are quite small, without much storage space. This doesn't bother me, but I'm not the packrat of the househould... :saint:

Very nice! Thanks! I know where you're talking about, but I can't think of the name of the place. Edited by Kilroy the Ninja: by request of the mover, please refrain from posting location.

God will provide! And FWIW I don't think that's an uber bad area. Though I could be wrong!
