phatcatholic
phatpham, this is where you post info which shows that SS was not developed so that CHristians could have intelectual freedom. this isn't an admirable invention. it was created so that the Protestors of the day could exert their own authority. also, documents show that the reformers were just as, if not more, tyranical then the Church is often accused as being. It certaintly wasn't a lovey-dovey, lets-be-free-and-love-God time to be a Protestant. its important that people know the history of this doctrine. good luck and God Bless, phatcatholic
God Conquers
Politics, and especially dissention within a state needs to be legitimized. What better way to legiotimize a revolution or the taking of land from the established owner than religion in an Age of Faith. German Princes struggling for more power took advantage of the reformation and twisted it to political ends. In the same way, the Huguenots tried to gain power in France. Henry VIII, looking for a way to more easily control his populace and increase the power of the state took the only means possible: destroy the power of the Church. Once the state gains control of religion the power of the monarch and government becomes limitless. Sola Scriptura legitimizes rebellion and anarchy.
