It's based on a story by the same woman who wrote "The Shipping News." I liked that book quite a bit. I probably won't see this movie, though.

[quote name='Revprodeji' date='Dec 12 2005, 12:46 PM']both of those lead charicters have funny taste in woman in real life, so perhaps hmmm...they are switching teams?

Who knows?

Funny taste in women doesn't necessarily insinuate that one plays for the other team.

yeah, brokeback mountain, a story about 2 cowboys (Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath legder) who fall in love and then get married to other women and can't be together.

Hollywood was quick to embrace this movie which was not at all a surprise. Its being hailed as groundbreaking, emotional, and a moving inspiring love story........... i would call it a movie that involves very grave sin.

From what i have heard, it doesn't sound good (morality wise). Though the most likely thing is that it will open the flood gates for a whole bunch of new major motion pictures about this stuff.

though really without the trash it sounds like it would be a good movie.

I wish we could change the plot a little bit and make it better. ;) (i.e. they could meet and share spiritual conversations or some randomly Catholic thing)

Ash Wednesday

The problem is that this movie, along with "Million Dollar Baby" and the issue of euthanasia -- doesn't come across to many as overtly wrong because they are able to use emotions to pull at the strings of a viewer's heart. But as we know, "feelings" aren't the same as reason and conscience.

I could probably watch the movie and somehow feel sorrow for the emotional turmoil that the characters would experience with being gay -- but I could come away from it and say the movie had some good intentions but is in favor of a reality that is intrinsically flawed.

Unfortunately I know that not a lot of viewers will do this, and as was mentioned before, you probably will start seeing more sad "love stories" such as this coming out of Hollywood.

Yeah, I saw an interview with those South Park guys where they discussed that. (Cartman was a prophet!)

Seriously, though, I lost respect for Ang Lee after The Incredible Hulk.

Unfortunately, I think that in today's social/political climate, the easiest way to become a critic's darling is to make a "sensitive" movie about homosexuality.
