Does Kentucky qualify as "The South"?

To settle an ongoing debate with a friend from Louisville, is Kentucky "The South"?

Kentucky is special....like shortbus special lol.
Its bad because people from Kentucky are like a cross between yankees, hillbillys and hicks which is just horrible lol.
No offense to Kentucky :P

It's a similar debate with Delaware. It remained in the union, but it didn't become a free state till after the Civil War. Though since majority of the population lives in the northern part of the state (where it has more "Yankee" traits), and it's slightly higher up than Maryland (take out a map and you'll see), I declare it a Northern state. :D: Unfortunately, the U.S. Census bureau consideres Delaware and Maryland to be "South", but many other sources usually label them as Northern or border states.

Now about Kentucky... I said "It is its own special place."

I LOVE KENTUCKY!!! some people may not consider it southern as far as geographic location is concerned, but KY has always had a southern feel and embraced the southern lifestyle. KY is notorious for its rate of citizens who either remain in KY their whole life, or return to KY after moving away. its just nice here, and nothing else really compares to it. i consider myself a southerner, and i'm proud of it :punk:

check out the state song:

My Old Kentucky Home
Words and Music by: Stephen C. Foster

The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home
'Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By'n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus:
Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.

They hunt no more for the 'possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by that old cabin door;
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow where all was delight;
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days and the trouble all will end
In the field where sugar-canes may grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light,
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!

Chorus

ummm............yea, KY is southern :cowboy: :guitar: :farmer:
As a Virginian, I declare Kentucky to be Southern.  As you well know, Virginia is at the pinnacle of Southern culture and society, and always has been.  Therefore, our opinions count more in such matters.  The only peers we have are those boys in Charleston and some in Georgia.

No, THIS is the Minnesota State Song:
I really can't stay - Baby it's cold outside
I've got to go away - Baby it's cold outside
This evening has been - Been hoping that you'd drop in
So very nice - I'll hold your hands, they're just like ice
My mother will start to worry - Beautiful, what's your hurry
My father will be pacing the floor - Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I'd better scurry - Beautiful, please don't hurry
well Maybe just a half a drink more - Put some music on while I pour

The neighbors might think - Baby, it's bad out there
Say, what's in this drink - No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how - Your eyes are like starlight now
To break this spell - I'll take your hat, your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no, sir - Mind if I move a little closer
At least I'm gonna say that I tried - What's the sense in hurting my pride
I really can't stay - Baby don't hold out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

C'mon baby

I simply must go - Baby, it's cold outside
The answer is no - Ooh baby, it's cold outside
This welcome has been - I'm lucky that you dropped in
So nice and warm -- Look out the window at that storm
My sister will be suspicious - Man, your lips look so delicious
My brother will be there at the door - Waves upon a tropical shore
My maiden aunt's mind is vicious - Gosh your lips look delicious
Well maybe just a half a drink more - Never such a blizzard before

I've got to go home - Oh, baby, you'll freeze out there
Say, lend me your comb - It's up to your knees out there
You've really been grand - Your eyes are like starlight now
But don't you see - How can you do this thing to me
There's bound to be talk tomorrow - Making my life long sorrow
At least there will be plenty implied - If you caught pneumonia and died
I really can't stay - Get over that old out
Ahh, but it's cold outside

Baby it's cold outside
(of course, we could claim that here right now, but still)
Hail Minnesota

Minnesota, hail to thee!
Hail to thee, our state so dear,
Thy light shall ever be
A beacon bright and clear.
Thy son and daughters true
Will proclaim thee near and far,
They shall guard thy fame and adore thy name;
Thou shalt be their Northern Star.

Like the stream that bends to sea,
Like the pine that seeks the blue;
Minnesota, still for thee
Thy sons are strong and true.
From the woods and waters fair;
From the prairies waving far,
At thy call they throng with their shout and song;
Hailing thee their Northern Star.

When we passed through Kentucky back in April, my mom really loved the beauty of the state.
