toledo_jesus
As a Virginian, I declare Kentucky to be Southern. As you well know, Virginia is at the pinnacle of Southern culture and society, and always has been. Therefore, our opinions count more in such matters. The only peers we have are those boys in Charleston and some in Georgia.
BullnaChinaShop
As someone who grew up in KY I say it is its own special place because it depends on what part of KY you are in as to whether it is Southern or not. KY is the dividing line between north and south and there fore it has some of both. In my experience the further away from the Ohio river you get the more Southern KY is. I grew up on a grain farm outside a town on the Ohio river and I would say that the area I grew up in has more of a Midwestern feel than Southern but it is still a mix. By the way after leaving KY I went to school in AL and now live in the FL panhandle (aka LA - Lower Alabama) so I have experience with areas that are undoubtedly part of the South.
OK, so if my friends are from Louisville, their southerness might be questionable? Here's a comment from another friend weighing in on the subject:
About C and W not being southerners, Abby while you are correct in this, both C and W have created this fiction of an identity as a poor attempt to hide the fact that Louisville has no identity of its own. Being "southern" is all they have as an attempt to identify themselves, we shouldn't take it away. B
Could it just be that Louisville doesn't count as being Southern? Because I can buy that there are parts of the state that are undoubtedly so. Louisville just doesn't strike me as being one of those parts. Of course, I don't want to claim them for the north either. homeschoolmom
Seeing as they weren't part of the confenderacy, I'd have to say "someplace else"... it's not north for sure...

I mean it's there too, but that's all the way up above our colony the Upper Peninsula.
Gal. 5:22,23
I lived in Louisville 30+ years. Louisville does not have a southern feel as compared to other parts of the state. But when I moved to north Jersey and opened my mouth, well, people looked at me like I was from outer space. "Where are you FROM?" Just because I don't "tawk" or say "yous guys," sheesh! I think Louisville is a great place to live. It still has somewhat of a smaller town feel (as compared to Atlanta and NYC), but has everything to offer - sports, the arts, and a whole lot of Catholic Churches. The last thing, I cannot say about north Georgia.
