Dave
Getting it blessed apparently is incorrect, you need to be enrolled in order to receive the graces from it (We have carmelite nuns here who knew?). And also, with the St. Michael one it is different in a way (see New Advent), you also need to pray the prayer of St. Michael the Archangel. Lot of help the lot of you are : Apparently it is a popular, yet widely misused devotion...
Adam, a true St. Michael scapular is purplish, not brown. Also, I've seen brown scapulars with St. Joseph, Padre Pio, St. Therese, St. Jude, Our Lady of Guadalupe, etc. on them. But they're still the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. You can tell because they have Our Lady's quote on one part of them, namely, that whoever wears it won't suffer eternal fire.
Brother Adam
I forget the quotes on it, but I know it has a crucifix and Bendictine medal on it. I don't have it on me. I'm learning more about it though.
marielapin
I've got a St. Michael one too. I took it to my priest to get "invested" and he had no clue what I was talking about. So he just blessed it. I haven't really worn it though because when I wear it I want to do all the prayers and for a while I wasn't ready to give that much time daily to the prayers. I need to re-look into it.
marielapin
I also have a sweet five-way medal with the following: A crucifix Miraculous Medal Scapular Medal St. Joseph St. Christopher They really are the best of all worlds!
Brother Adam
Yeah, Fr. Dominic didn't have a clue about 'investure' or 'enrollment', but blessed it and from what I understand I can wear it. I need to get over and talk to the carmelite nuns today and I know they can point me to a Mariam priest who can make sure I do things right
Brother Adam
Rite for the Blessing and Investiture Of the Scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel To obtain the fullest possible benefits from the Brown Scapular devotion, one must be validly invested (sometimes called "enrolled") in the Brown Scapular by a priest who possesses the faculties (usually a Carmelite, Dominican or Franciscan), using a scapular blessed by the same or any other priest. After proper enrollment in the Scapular, a person need not have subsequent scapulars blessed. Once enrolled you are enrolled until death. A Scapular Ritual for Priests, with the prayers of enrollment, is found below: Priest - Show us, 0 Lord, Thy mercy. Respondent - And grant us Thy salvation. P - Lord, hear my prayer. R - And let my cry come unto Thee. P - The Lord be with you. R - And with your spirit. P - Lord Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, sancfify by Thy power these scapulars, which for love of Thee and for love of Our Lady of Mount Cannel, Thy servants will wear devoutly, so that through the intercession of the same Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and protect against the evil spirit, they persevere until death in Thy grace. Thou who liveth and reigneth world without end. Amen. The Priest does the Aspersion and Invests Person(s) While Saying: Receive this blessed Scapular and ask the Most Holy Virgin that by Her merits, it may be worn with no stain of sin, protect you from all harm and bring you to everlasting life. Amen. After the Investiture the Priest Continues With the Prayers: I, by the power vested in me, admit you to participate in aff the spiritual benefits obtained through the mercy of Jesus Christ by the Religious Order of Mount Carmel. In the name of the Father+and of the Son+and of the Holy Ghost+. Amen. May God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and earth, bless you, He who has deigned to join you to the confraternity of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel; we beseech Her to crush the head of the ancient serpent so that you may enter into possession of your etemal heritage through Christ our Lord. R - Amen.

Brother Adam
really really. Or at least when I asked him about enrollment he just told me that he could bless it for me and then I could wear it. I wasn't about to tell a priest no... :
Brother Adam
Enrollment To be eligible for THE SCAPULAR PROMISE, one must be enrolled in the Family of Carmel. This is a simple ceremony which takes only a moment and can be done by any Carmelite or duly authorized priest. The words used by the priest when enrolling a person in the Confraternity of the Scapular are as follows: "Receive this blessed habit; praying the most holy Virgin, than by Her merits thou may wear it without stain; and that She may guard thee from all evil and bring thee to life everlasting. R. Amen. By the power granted me, I admit thee to the participation of all the spiritual good works, which through the gracious help of Jesus Christ are performed by the religious of Mount Carmel. In the name of the Father, and the Son, + and of the Holy Spirit. R. Amen. May the Creator of Heaven and earth, Almighty God, bless + thee; Who has deigned to unite thee to the confraternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mount Carmel. We beseech Her, in the hour of thy death, to crush the head of the old serpent; so that thou may in the end win the everlasting palm and crown of the heavenly inheritance. Through Christ our Lord. R. Amen."
Brother Adam
Priest - Ostende nobis, domine misericordiam tuam. Respondent - Et salutare tuum da nobis. P - Domine, exaudi orationem meum. R - Et clamor meus ad te veniat. P - Dominus vobiscum. R - Et cum spiritu tuo. P - Oremus. Domine Jesu Christe, humani generis Salvator, hunc habitum, quem propter tuum tuaeque Genitricis Virginis Mariae de Monte Carmelo, Amorem servus tuus devote est delaturus, dextera tua sanctifica, tu eadem Genitrice tua intercedente, ab hoste maligno defensus in tua gratia usque ad mortem perseveret: Qui vivis et regnas in saecula saeculorum. Amen. THE PRIEST BLESSES THE SCAPULAR AND INVESTS PERSONS SAYING: P - Accipite hunc, habitum benedictum precantes sanctissima Virginem, ut ejus meritis illum perferatis sine macula, et vos ab omni adversitate defendat, atque advitam perducat aeternam. Amen. AFTER INVESTITURE THE PRIEST CONTINUES WITH THE PRAYERS: P - Ego, ex potestate mihi concessa, recipio vos ad participationem, omnium bonorum spiritualium, qua, cooperante misericordia Jesu Christi, a Religiosa de Monte Carmelo peraguntur. In Nomine Patris + et Filii + et Spiritus Sancti. + Amen. R - Amen.
jezic
It is strange that the priest didn't know it, but he should have known that it is in the book of Blessings, at least i would think so ....
