i would say no more than 50.

Kids today don't need so much "stuff". They need caring parents and love. They need books and things that take them outside into the sun. They need notebooks to write things down, and some nice treats once in a while. They need to be taught about Jesus and learn to pray. They need to be educated in the Catholic faith.

I don't think any of that costs a whole lot. :) or else some of it is priceless...

It depends on the age. Overall though, I don't think $150 is too much to spend on Christmas per child. There are many that spend WAY more. The way things are priced these days a couple nice picture books, a few new outfits, and some toys can add up to $150 in no time flat.

Holy freaking cripes. That's just insane! No one needs $150 worth of stuff for Christmas. I can see spending up to $50 if you find a couple of really cool things...but no way do you need to spend *that* much!

Where the schizmit do you shop?!

First you need to decide what is considered a present. Do you consider necessary items such as sox and underwear presents? Books?
Are you going to define present as something they don't need but want or like, or disguise necessaries as gifts?
Then you have to consider the age of the child. Toddlers might like several small things, but a teenager might like one large item.
Finally if you have more than one child, you need to decide if you are going to play the money game [ equal amounts of money] or the choice game [ one special item no matter what the price].

I have always spent appx $100 per child max, so they got one toy, one book, and stocking stuffers. I never give a child something he needs, but always the one thing they want the most. The gifts were always from me, not from Santa.

My budget is 200 dollars for Christmas and I am only 18 years old. 25 for my family around, so that's 100 dollars. Then for my two best friends, the same amount, and for my closer friends the rest of the money.

I don't exactly budget, but do similarly to what Cmom said-- one toy, one book and one small "stocking" gift. So far, I'm way behind in my shopping... <sigh>

I should probably put myself on a budget before I go Christmas shopping this year...I've got 7 siblings to buy for, my parents, 10 family member *and still going up*, and about 7 or 8 friends to buy for...Luckily I have my parent's gift all picked out...It's DaVinci's picture of Mary, Jesus, John the Baptist, and St. Anne. I'm gonna get it framed and stuff...the only problem is it's gonna cost quite a bit...but as long as my parents don't know how much I'm spending on then it's all good :P: Hey, they deserve it right?

Parents usually deserve the best you can give them. But the best gift you can give anyone is the gift of your time and attention.
When I had that many people on my list, the gifts were mostly coupons or made gifts or special occasions. Unless its something someone actually needs, don't buy them a gift, take them out for the day and lavish them with your attention, especially if they are younger than you. Items get lost or broken or need dusted, but memories are a lifetime gift.

:D: thank you...I've always heard that, and always thought it was a good idea, but this year has been really stressful and I've just been thinking about the best thing money can buy them, and forgot about the more important things. Thank you for reminding me.

I agree.

Prose, it depends on your budget and what you feel comfortable spending on your children. There is no right or wrong amount to spend.
