M.SIGGA
These are all the U.S. and Coalition Casualties as of December 8, 2003 that were relesed by the State Department. Many more have died everyday since this report was released. I was shocked that so many of them were so very young, most of were not even 40. Remember their souls and their families in your prayers, especially now because this is the first Christmas holiday that they will be missed by their families and friends. This site puts a face on the lists of names that we hear about on the news. It's really really sad. http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/2003/iraq/forces/casualties/

Don John of Austria
I hate to sound jaded but why are people getting all bent out of shap about this These casualties are NOTHING, this would be a single divisional engaugement in world war two( and not bad casualties for that) . I mean this is an increadably low death toll why are we so upset about it. We are doing fantasticly well.

If we were in a hot war, these would be low casualty numbers, but fighting has been called off for months now. This wasn't meant to be controversal, just a suggestion that it would be nice to remember these dead people and their families in prayer, especially since Christmas is coming up. The website and pics were added so you can know that it is a real person who lived a short life and died tragically that you are praying for, and also remember the soldiers that are still dying everyday. I agree, and every soldier deserves to be more than a name, they deserve there picture to be seen and remembered. Though this is a low casulaty count compared to ww1/ww2, i think most of us, including me under estimated the death toll this war would bring... Don John of Austria
We are in a hot war, My father in law just got back. He is in his fifties and was in combat-- alot. It is a hot war. I don't mean to belittle the tragity to the families who lost people, but we Crushed a country this is Nationally (agian not personally) not much ofa sacrifice. We should be thankful, not complaining.
BLAZEr
I have a question. Would you support the war if none of our guys died? Would you be more in favor of the war if we could guarantee no American casualties? I'm not implying you feel this way M.Sigga but sometimes I think that the way liberals talk about the casualites and the soldiers is just opportunistic. Personally, I am more supportive of the war because of our casualties. These men are dying to make other men free. There is something noble about their sacrifice. Don John of Austria
most of these men are dying because they wanted money to go to college. They are mercenaries fighting in a mercenary army, there is nothing noble about it ecept in the since of giveing good value to your employer. Are all of these men mere mercs, no but most are, and so now they have to fight. Well what did they ecpext when they signed up. Maybe this seems cynical but I have know plenty of guys in the army and most where just mercs plain and simple.
BLAZEr
Even a mercenary can have a noble death if its for a noble cause. Their intentions might not be noble, but their sacrifice is.
Don John of Austria
Well I'll give you that, if your cause is noble even an merc can have an honorable death. D o you really think this cause is noble? I am not sayig it isn;t I just would like to know why you think it is.
hyperdulia again
this isn't a noble cause. truly going to war to liberate the iraqi people would have been noble i am praying for all who have died and wwill die in this war.
BLAZEr
Whether this cause is noble is certainly open for debate Hyper, and neither side pontificating is going to solve anything. Personally, I do believe that the liberation of Iraq i noble, the following are some of my reasons: The Iraqi people were under much persecution. (I am fully aware that there are other countries that have persecution and we haven't invaded them). The threat of radical islam is a serious one to the peace and security of the world. Establishing a democratic presence in the Middle East, directly next to the most radical countries (Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Syria which all border Iraq) sends a clear message to the radical factions that we will take this threat seriously. I believe (however misguided one may perceive this view) that our being in Iraq will increase the freedom of other Islamic states. I believe that since the men and women of these countries are indoctrinated into an ideolgy and have their access to information controlled that they will only be exposed the ideas of freedom and democracy and liberty by their immediate and effective presence in their midst. If Iraq is a success (this is of course not guaranteed) then it will make it clear to the people yearning to be free (this is most evident in Iran) that democratic government that avoids radical Islamic tendencies is a better option than what they presently have.
