N/A Gone
yes...i agree, I like ur posts. Im not trying to saint luther, just trying to justify for him alil bit. I have heard from many sources that Luther was a possible pope. So I will need to look into this. "Mother church" in the first 3 chapters speaks great about luthers desire to reform the church, but to stay within it. Great book
Aloysius
to clarify from my post on the first page
So too in that mindset only should we envision Martin Luther in hell.
meaning if we imagine him in hell (which we do not know for certain obviously) then we should only do it in that mindset, not in a mindset of judging him and claiming to know his eternal fate. Dante placed many specific people in hellI don't think Dante was wrong to do this. to imagine Martin Luther in hell is to imagine an icon of the mortal sin of heresy in hell. it makes a point, it is a good strong image. if the guy is in heaven, I think he'd be happy to let his former self be the example of what not to do, the example of what can send a man to hell. In fact,I think if Martin Luther was in heaven, he'd want us to imagine him in hell. It's not doubting God's mercy, it's teaching His justice. so long as, like I said, you remember you do not know for certain the eternal fate of his soul. Era Might
Dante placed many specific people in hellI don't think Dante was wrong to do this.
No, I agree. It was a literary tool. But, were someone to place Luther in Heaven, to illustrate the opposite end of the spectrum (unless their intention were to absolve his historical record against Catholic doctrine), I wouldn't bat an eye. I believe Peter Kreeft, for example, places Muhammed in Heaven in one of his philosophy books. Edited December 2, 2005 by Era Might

Fidei Defensor
Exactly. I'm just concerned about what was said before, about ignorance and whatnot... I know that I accept Catholicism, love it, and want to become a member of the Church... it just scares me that when I expose my family to the truth, they might not accept it and will therefore be damned, even though I know they all have great faith. If I'm understanding what was said before... I could have misunderstood...
Don't worry. God's ways are as simple as they seem complex.. He knows our inner being completely, and will judge each of us accordingly.
