I think you'll be able to see them whenever you want after you leave this earth, anyway. :D Nevertheless, I too would like to see those lights before I leave.

My Calculus teacher told me that there were a lot of northern lights right now because of a bunch of comets that are ramming into the sun from underneath our solar system. The universe sure is crazy.

I have been pondering my avatar for the past few days, but I cant pin down what it should be. I want to choose one and stick to it.

Maybe something to do with the Vatican, or JP2, or maybe our lady. . .I like things that are highly symbolic

Have you ever read Heart of Darkness?

yeah, but getting back to the northern lights :)

I see them from where I am on rare occasions, but not like THAT! Pretty sweet. I wonder though if there may be some digital tweaking of those pics.

RE: Digital tweaking: not a chance! The sun is exceptionally active right now and the lights sure show it. Those pics while stunning, can never capture the mystery and wonder of the movements and shimmers that the lights have. They are like luminescent veils of smoke that God just wafts his hand by once in a while to make them all dance across the sky. God knew how to make those long artic nights worth while.

GC - where are you that you can see them sometimes. I'm here around Fairbanks, one of the places in the world where the aurora are studied. They even have rockets they shoot off to "make" fake auroras. No matter what they are awe-inspiring.
