Cathurian
And if these "transgendered" used the toilets and people kept in their respective stalls, how would anyone find out? The truth is, such bathrooms would in practice make it easier for killers to target "transgendered" victims!
You can tell what gender someone is when you look at them. You don't need to be in the stall with them. If a boy walks in the girl's bathroom, or vice versa, everyone else in the bathroom knows. And people can get killed for choosing the "wrong" bathroom. Cathurian
The problem is that a boy can use the boy's room and get killed for it anyway, because he looks like a girl. Which is why I put "wrong" in italics.

And if you really think it's his right to be a "girl," then he can go to the ladies' room and use the stalls (who'll notice if he looks so much like a girl?) I'm through arguing this. This is all madness. God have mercy on us all! Edited November 26, 2005 by Socrates

photosynthesis
are these public restrooms, with stalls and urinals and maxi pad dispensers, or are they single bathrooms? I like the idea of having more gender neutral single bathrooms, but I think having gender neutral public bathrooms would be awkward for EVERYONE. I think a lot of people would use single bathrooms though, not just transexuals but also people with elderly/disabled relatives and people with small children
Especially in college where they have showers in some of the bathrooms, what are you going to do then?
i had to deal with that last summer... I signed up for summer housing, thinking that the houses would be co-ed by floor (i.e. guys on one flor, girls on another flor, etc, shared kitchen and commons room) which is the normal setup at my school. they didn't even tell us beforehand that it was coed by room. let's just say that I heard a lot of strange noises when I was trying to brush my teeth, almost every day. it was horrible!
But it's extremely frightening to live in a society that insists I have no right to call myself a woman, or that considers heterosexuals narrowminded.
I think that's a bit of an overstatement there.

More so for families with small children, so they always can have an adult to go with them... Other than that, both sets of bathrooms should be properly equipped for either sets... They have a toilet and a stall... All you need... If you need anything else and are this situation, either smell of elderberries it up and go in the right bathroom or bring what you need with you Edited November 26, 2005 by CatholicCid

toledo_jesus
subject of transgendered bathrooms came up at my school recently. Apparently, 5 people came forward and said they didn't feel comfortable going to the bathroom on campus. Well, out of a university of 21,000 those 5 are poised to actually get their wishes. My tuition money is going to accomodate them, and I'm not pleased about it. From what I understand they are supposed to live as the gender they choose, so my thinking is pick one and shut up. There's no need to spend money to make unisex bathrooms.
