StMichael
It was just 6 years ago that the UK had a ban in place that outlawed any depiction of actual sex in film or photographs. The laws changed and I see the outcome. Here in the US, what baffles me is that the so-called "actors" are prostitutes and everywhere in the Good Ol' USA, expect northern Nevada, prostitution is illegal. How did this happen? One judge in Orange County, CA ruled it acceptable and that is the only place they have legal protection to "film." What I don't get is the transport to the other 49 states. But I guess politicians don't want to mess with anyone's vices. The past 12 years here in the US, it has become more and more commonplace for young girls to make "college money" through porns entry point - gentlemen clubs. The snake is working overtime, gotta give him that.

Ash Wednesday
It is frightening because with mobile technology allowing not just sounds and images but now videos on our phones, it is at the point where people can take it with them EVERYWHERE. Near my flat at Mile End (London) there is an ad that is billboard size advertising healthy skin, and it's a great big butt. I was listening to LBC talk radio and apparently Thomas Cook travel had some package that included a trip to Amsterdam where you can go see the red light district and even take your kids. They even boast "under threes can go for free." I thought people calling in would be outraged but I was so disgusted at the "What is the big deal" attitude that people had, saying "kids are going to learn about this sooner or later" and "families live near there and walk by it every day" "It's in our newspapers and magazines anyway, sheesh, Britain is still so Victorian"... I sent in a text message to the show along the lines of: "AREN'T THERE BETTER PLACES THAT PEOPLE CAN TAKE THEIR KIDS ON HOLIDAY?" One has to wonder what Thomas Cook himself would have thought, as he was deeply religious and a Baptist minister. Part of his vision of arranging travel for people and families was for the temperence movement frowning down on alcohol -- it was his hope that people would save money for trips instead of spending it on a pint. I'm sure he'd be pleased to see that they skip the beer and go for the prostitution.
jiyoung
It's so sad how porn has just become common, nothing to be ashamed of, in this culture. It's so disgusting...ugh. Everything is about self-gratification, and of course sex is simply a need that must be satisfied, much like hunger, right? Argh....
PadrePioOfPietrelcino
Wow, I thought the US was really screwed up (still do), I can't believe it . Our world is really falling for a counterfiet reality, so much that young Girls WANT to be pornstars. I wish somebody could some sense into them. Pope John Paul the Great help our world learn to respect the human body with all of the Glory the God intended, Amen

Totus Tuus
I don't think she probably wants to be a stripper because she likes to dance. She probably wants to be loved.
argent_paladin
Hmmm... I have a problem with this analogy. The urge to drink alcohol isn't nearly as innate as the urge to copulate. Not only that, but the immediate physical effects of alcohol aren't present in pornography. Porn doesn't slow down reaction times, blur vision, or cause a hangover, so people don't perceive ill effects from porn. It's usually the deep psychological effects that cause the most harm. Other than that, she makes some good points.
I agree with you. First, I don't think there should be a stigma to drinking alcohol in moderation. In fact Thomas Aquinas considered it a virtue. One can truly be a casual drinker, but one cannot be a casual user of porn. A better analogy is the smoking one. Better yet is if we imagine that Starbucks offered heroin with its coffee. Addictive, instant gratification, etc.
1337 k4th0l1x0r
Actually, there are some bad immediate physical effects.
