jasJis
Pretty much, HP is not as harmless as cotton candy. Parents should pay attention to what their kids see and read and discuss things with them. LOR can be harmfull to, as I'm sure the Narnia movies can be. When talking about powerful 'magic' and right and wrong, parental attention is needed. My daughter is a huge HP fan, but she's 16 now and I've always made sure to read the books and discuss the themes with her. The same with LOR and we've read the Narnia books. She's not into the magic part of it as much as the teen struggle with doing what's right or wrong. The magic is an entertainment vehicle in a larger story. BTW. My father-in-law was buddies w/ Johnny Cash and they both served in the airforce together in England and kept in touch until the 70's. I've heard lot's of cool stories and he's got pics and stuff from the service days and visting back stage.

cmotherofpirl
I will definitely see Harry, but am more interested in Narnia, Pride and Predjudice, Zathura, Rent, and the movie about geishas. For Christmas this year I am asking for movie passes, and books.

It's funny, I've been pretty excited in years past to watch HP movies when they come out, but this year other movies are just much more appealing. Don't know what it is. HSdaughter has already decided that she doesn't want to see LWW yet because she's afraid it will be too violent (all the ads show nothing but the battle)... So, she's content to wait until the rest of us have seen it (to reasure her it's not toooo scary) or for the DVD. She loves the books, so I don't really want to push the movie. Brother Adam
Did you (or rather Teresa) find this to be the case in the book or just in the movie?
I don't read the books (only read the first one). I don't like the dipiction of crying statues, incarnated evil, pictures that looked a lot like religious art, just 'mangled', and the use of witchcraft as being 'good'. Carrie
I haven't had a chance to go see it yet. I can't decide whether I want to see HP or Rent first.

Cam42
The movie is just ok. I don't think that it is as good as the first two although it is close to the third. I am a fan of the Chris Columbus Harry Potter's, though. While I understand that they are growing up and things are going to change, the movie is WAAAAYYYY to mature for the kids that are going to see it. There is too much fantasy violence, there is too much veiled sexual tension. While that is fine for adults, it is not so much for kids. The little girl I was sitting next to was scared witless through several scenes. That was not fun to see.....
Cam42
Since I've seen Rent on Broadway and at the Orpheum (Minnesotans will know what I am talking about), I can't wait to see it in the theatre. I sincerely hope that it will be a good movie. I am praying that it will be a good movie. It will be a good movie, right?
