Boycott Harry Potter!

http://hourofthewitch.com/

Many ex-witches are against Harry Potter and the increased interest in the occult his books and movies bring.

I have always wondered about that. Does anyone know what the bishops have said about all the controversy? I did not care for the books, pale in comparison to the likes of Tolkien etc.

Anyone up on this 'occult' thing and the HPBooks?

Cardinal Ratzinger allegedly didn't like Harry Potter. Pope Benedict has never stated any public opinion.

However, I doubt that his opinion changed... He's still the same human being after all... BUT it's his opinion... While it is prudent to listen to his opinion (note I didn't say "obey"), it is not binding...

...and that is all.

(please note that I did not start this...)

Yes, I want to clarify for anyone reading: it's not correct to assume that his opinions remained the same. It is the office of pope, not the person filling the office, which demands our obedience. Therefore, since he has stated nothing as pope, but only as cardinal, the pope has not expressed any beliefs or opinions on this matter (but the person "Josef Ratzinger" has, allegedly).

Thank you for that clarification---it really is good to re-iterate, for those of us who are fuzzy on when he spoke on it.

Sorry HS mom, I didn't know what can of worms I was opening.... :pinch:

I didn't like it. In fact I had I had a strong feeling of the presence of evil through most of the film. (I don't mean the film had evil elements, I mean I felt the presence of evil in the theatre).

It was uncanningly religious (many elements reminded me of our Catholic faith, but being used in witchcraft), I wonder if the USCCB noticed when they rated. Some scenes I became so uneasy I almost left...

Did you (or rather Teresa) find this to be the case in the book or just in the movie?

I really don't care to get into it again, since last time we had this discussion my words were completely twisted. Someone accused me of saying something completely different than what I said...

I want to go, but no one else is around.

The fact of the matter is that I've seen nothing official and the only thing making me cautious is that so many people have driven my scruples up the wall and I'm afraid of having anxiety attacks for going.

I think I have a sense of an evil presence whenever anyone talks about it, but that's because I've been conditioned to think of evil when I hear "Harry Potter"...much like the one person I know who can't read Lord of the Rings because she was once involved with the occult and now she's hypersensative.

Piccoli Fiori JMJ

I saw it Friday night when I was in Minnesota... we walked over from the hotel to the theater. It was okay, I did advise my mom about the much 'creepier-ness' and the sad parts too (for my little sister). I've read the book and there was quite a bit left out (as usual) but not too much to expected with that...

It was allright though...
