Are you in the LA area? You should try going to St. Peter Chanel...it's in the LA Archdiocese, around Long Beach...so okay, it's not that close or anything but you know.

Protestants kinda tend to focus on outreach and such and not so much on truth. It's more social than prayerful...

You're making a pretty hefty generalization here.

My point from the above post exactly. I technically would be labeled a Protestant, and I could see that the prior comment would probably offend some, and understandably so. RC, don't give up on Phatmass yet, O.K.?

I'm sorry about the generalization. It's what I've seen of a lot of outreach programs, though. Perhaps this is one that might disprove me, or something. But as a Catholic (I'm assuming you are, rckllnknny, but tell me if I'm wrong) there are other programs out there within the Church. It's not a good idea to divide your loyalties. Don't hate PM on account of me, I tend to put my foot in my mouth a lot...

By the way...I was commenting on the nature of the programs, not on the nature of Protestantism itself. From what I've seen, youth outreach programs tend to be geared a lot towards social interaction rather than anything more substantial. Then again, my old church was like that too. I guess bottom line is that I would prefer actually going to church instead of just activities with church people...

I would agree with you that some Protestant church outreaches do not have a proper focus on truth (in this case, Biblical truth).

Your apology is humble and well-received by me...and hopefully RC too.

I see your point, but you also have to remember that no one can fulfill his/her proper function in the body of Christ unless he/she has a fellowship connection with other members of the body.

Yeah, no man is an island and all. I wouldn't be Catholic anymore if it weren't for some people God placed in my path.

I just have issues with social activities IN PLACE of good Christian fellowship. I don't know if you understand my distinction...Social activities meaning something like a winter formal (which is a tradition at my old church and has no grounding whatsoever in Christian fellowship--evident in the kind of dancing that takes place. Ew) versus Christian fellowship like a prayer group or something. Not to say that people should NEVER do anything not related to church, but if a church is going to sponsor an event...doesn't it kinda make sense that it would be church-related? But that's just my gripes with my old church.

-edit- I looked at the purpose a little more closely, so never mind...

I agree with the fact that in a church setting, for the most part, social gatherings should be Christ-focused. Otherwise, disunity can subtly enter the door and no one will recognize it. We are not disagreeing; I just think that neither of our points of view have been thoroughly stated.
