I have been blessed with a newfound fire and love for Jesus and the church that He founded! But something happened at school that miffed me off. There was an article that was anti-Catholic: the article Then I wrote to the paper and they published it: my response I know this is long, but I want to start a Catholic Answers table right next to the Evangelical table BUT NEED HELP!! I wrote to the Parish that services my school and there was no response. I need to know where I can get pamphlets, videos, music and most of all Info on explaining my Faith to all theses geniuses here. I need backup. phatcatholic
a few comments i have about your response. for one, the Church is not against "all" wars. we do have a Just War theory that actually calls for war when under the right pretense. when in the form of self-defense, it is certainly permissible. see the Catechism on Safeguarding Peace. also, while i agree w/ you that anti-Catholicism is the last acceptable prejudice, i would not have been as quick to assert that, by using Catholic imagery in their artwork, they were claiming that the Church was at fault for what the artist saw as the political woes of our country. the fact is that an artist can really only turn to Catholicism, with its rich imagery and sensual components, when he wishes to represent "religion" or "christianity" in his art. there is little in protestantism that is as symbolic and appealing to the senses as what we find in Catholicism, and any imagery we find in protestantism is borrowed from our Tradition. so, this is probably just as easily a matter of the artist using what works the best in his medium. that said, i do think you are right to feel offended by the artwork in question. nowadays, it seems that the cool thing to do is spit at the sensibilities of Catholics, even tho we are the largest christian Church in the world. but then again, i guess Jesus called that a long time ago..... pax christi, phatcatholic
thessalonian
If you want pamphlets Catholic.com has some excellent ones. Pillar of Fire, Pillar of Truth and "God's Love for You" are excellent. The first I would say is for the Protestant who knows their Bible. The second is for the person who is not a Christian or doesn't have a real good grasp of what Christianity is. eddieloudog
Thanks for the replies! I will go to the CCC link and check out the pamphlets and the resource directory on the Phatmass website. It just makes me so mad that Catholicism is kicked around in this country. I know that people are afraid of us cuz we speak the truth and that it comes form their lack of knowledge. I do know, however, that I will be heading into a den of lions here. The student body doesn’t treat the evangelicals nicely and they are just quietly sitting there. I know that little bald headed loud mouth New Yorker communicating (dare I say ?? ) the Truth and playin Hip hop and maybe some Gregorian Chants is gonna be more than the Midwest can bare! Please pray for me and I will pray for you all. I am on my way and thanks for the start, but I will be back - a lot - for some info when I get into some talks with the pagans. The Evangelicals, I'm not too worried about cuz they know Him already; they just need to see the fullness of it all. : I am playing hookie to do get some pamphlets ordered to hand out and to read the resources, but it will all be worth it! Treat them kindly, and before you talk to them, PRAY for them and yourself. You sow the seed, the reaping is between them and God.
eddieloudog
I will treat them all kindly. I will also continue to pray for them and myself. I know that there lack of understanding isn't their fault, but I just hope that I can plant that seed. God willing, if I can just clear up some of the misunderstandings, then I will be happy. DAF
Actually, Their lack of understanding is their fault. They have 24 hours every day to read and listen to what the Church really teachers, and instead they choose to be ignorant and turn to other sources that are less then reliable, which is a serious offense as far as salvation is concerned. However, God still loved them enough to create them, so you can be charitable with how you treat them.
