hopeful1
Just an update The girl has almost 2000 comments on the whole expulsion matter. People are commenting from all over the world and some major pro life folk are asking to get involved. I would strongly suggest to any of the teens that are on this site to visit her blog. If her expulsion has anything to do with her family's stance on pro life or her blogging about it, I think it would be important to read. From a culture of life standpoint, reading through the comments is heartbreaking. To see students from an all girl's Catholic school denounce her for (her mom) standing up for the unborn and for their school is confounding.
ever since i've found this story on here, it's been forcing me to look back and think about how i feel about the catholic schools i went to and how "catholic' they actually are. i had always thought the ones that put up the most resistance against the church and it teachings, i swear my graduating class made my theology teacher take an early retirement because he left at the end of the school year without warning, but now i'm begining to wonder if i had teachers with the same attitudes as the students. this is just speculation on my part, but i can think of one teacher where it wouldn't surprise me if she supported women in the priesthood, and almost all my theo teachers (except for one who was a franciscan friar) have predicted the next pope would allow priest to marry, and by my senior year my prolife club wasn't even allowed to go to the freshman religion classes to talk about abortion anymore 'because of the sensitivity of the subject". i had one teacher/guidance counselor ask me to say the sinners prayer, but i think he ment well because he was concerned i had an anxiety disorder and he's always been supportive of my catholic faith. and he studys it himself (he's a former catholic turned non-denom., but still has a good catholic foundation-may one day come back once he gets somethings clarified about salvation and purgatory). i don't think i've had any noncatholic teachers say anything directly against catholic teachings, but maybe i'm just naive. just from my experience and from listening to alot of my friends from the newman center, a lot of these 'catholic schools' are just private schools that don;t deserve to be receiving funding from the diocese. i know too many people that went to them that left their faith entirely or had their faith supressed . yet with all my speculations and pointing out the negative things i almost feel like i'm an nit piking nazi and questioning how 'open minded' or 'closed minded' i really am. but for a catholic school to expell this girl for standing up for what's right and for her beliefs-is just wrong. i became catholic because of these schools, and thought if i went into teaching i'd want to teach at a catholic school to give back what my teachers had given me. now, i'm not so sure.... Jaime
There is an update on Katelyn's site about her expulsion. There she posts the evidence cited against her and her family and her family's response. Really guys, I suggest that if you haven't checked it out, you should. There are lots of teens who are blogging about their faith on this board. here is the link again
1337 k4th0l1x0r
I read through all the emails and other evidence there and it seems to me that the administration read a lot of threats where there clearly weren't any. I think no matter what the school is going to come out the worst in this. It's got me thinking about what kind of education I want to give my as yet unborn kids someday. Between homeschooling, Catholic School, non-catholic private school, and public school, I'd have to rank Catholic Schools, at least the state they are in now, at the bottom. At least if my kids are at public school they won't be believing that everthing they're taught at school is in line with Catholic teaching. It seems so many kids go through Catholic school and end up running away from the church when they have been given at best a watered down version of the truth and at worst a complete distortion of it. megrc
I can't believe that. I went to a wacky Catholic high school. but I couldn't imagine going through anything like that. Please keep us posted on anything that anyone hears about this.

cmotherofpirl
If you don't become a teacher and form good catholic kids - who will? Its not "why me" but "why NOT me" Edited November 17, 2005 by cmotherofpirl
