DancesforLove
Ok first of all, Evanescence isn't bad. They don't cuss in their songs and there aren't these horrible meanings in their songs. And just because a band isn't Christian doesn't make them bad.
DemonSlayer
They've (Amy Lee) just decided to hide their Christianity to sell records.
DancesforLove
Or actually they just didn't want to make religion a huge issue with it. Theres no reason for them to broadcast their religious views.
DemonSlayer
It's more than that, they've even said that they had absolutely no affiliation to Christianity.
DancesforLove
Well maybe they don't.
hopeful1
my understanding was they started off as christian, but then when they started going mainstream they dropped the "label" and didn't want their cd sold in christian stores. I beleive their attitude is " if you get a christian message from our songs, then good for you." and obviously there are alot of songs that can have a christian message in them (see my post in the secular song with christian message thread ). I've never heard them cuss in a song and i love their music.

But also because most of my songs would probably not be about "jesus" or such as. They might have a hint of meaning, but I wouldn't want to be a "Christian" singer/band

They think, you think we're goth, ok, if you think we're Chrstian, ok, if you think we're retarded, ok. But they have taken away their Christian name so as to broden their fan base. DemonSlayer
Which songs and what were they used for, praise and worship?
lucasmark83
Amy Lee used to sing at a Church in Arkansas before she sang for Evanescence, and the rest of the guys in the band used to be in the band Living Sacrifice, a Christian metal/hardcore band on Solid State Records...(They have since broken up). I think that they are a classic example of what the music industry can do to bands...Look at what happened to P.O.D.
DemonSlayer
Actually, only one of the other band members, Rocky Gray, used to be in Living Sacrifice, and he was only with them for about the 4 years. What triggered the split was that their lead vocalist decided to quit, although perhaps if Rocky had stayed in LS as well, they might have continued on. Also, original member, David Hodges, did some worship albums, with Amy lee singing on a few tracks.
