Drop out of school for a semester?

I'm thinking of dropping the Spring Term at Franciscan. Like most schools registration goes by grade, so Grad/Seniors register first, juniors next, on down the line. I'm a junior, shy only 1 credit from being a senior. I logged on to see how classes were filling up to find that already every single decent class I need is full. I'm not about to take B.S. teachers when I'm paying 16 thou a year for school. Half the problem here is everyone, all 33 majors wants to take upper level theology classes, and the school doesn't hold any seats for theology students, when they are gone, they are gone. Well they are gone less than 24 hours after senior registration has opened. It's really frustrating. While there are some really awesome teachers here, with all the huge problems in administration, I just can't see myself staying for my MA. It doesn't make any sense to when its impossible to get into any decent classes anyway.

phatcatholic, I advise against coming to FUS for your masters. (about 60/40 against).

*end rant*

The "college" I went to was a business college and it is now defunct. And I only went for a year and a half. So I don't know what it is to go to a "real" college.

But you used the word MONEY. Money is something I know very well coming from a large family. I would not spend MY HARD EARNED MONEY on something that I am not going to get a sound return on.
Not when you do have options for the future.

And that sounds just like where you are at. My opinion.

Makw SURE it doesn't totally screw any financial aid that you currently have. Get it in writing.

In addition to Cmom's sage advice about financial aid, check to see if any student loans you have taken out will come out of forebearance. Maybe you can afford make payments at this time, but you should definitely know if you would have to budget for them.

On the other hand, any chance that you could get on a waiting list and then talk with the professors to see if they will let you in?

Thy Geekdom Come

Wow, that stinks. I get to have Hildebrand for Sacraments if Dr. Martin gets taken (and he will) because the seniors took all of Fr. Dan's seats and half of Dr. Martin's already. It's ridiculous! Most of the classes I need I won't even be able to take with half-decent professors.

hmm this is a strange problem that they didn't talk about when i was there either.

Good to note though.

You know....I don't think I ever had that problem...seems odd really, like there should have been at least one class I took that I didn't want the teacher I got (well, I wasn't thrilled about taking Dr. Brees, but no one else ever taught those courses, so it wasn't a matter of the other class being full)...

I would do my thesis next semester, take half-time in Summer, and start again in the fall, my loans would continue to be deffered and I would work to pay off debt in the mean time. I'm going to do my best to get really angry and get into the classes that we deserve to take if we go here. With the population of the school increasing by more than the school can handle, and the administrations refusal to set aside theology classes for theology students, its one friggin huge mess. Our professors do the best they can, some even take up to 50 students, but there is only so much they can do. They need to kick non-theology majors out of 200+ theology classes.

or maybe just make *special* non-theology classes (1 or 2) a semester.

They could do things ndsu style and find a huge auditorium and put 475 people in the class.

yes it does seem that something needs to be done.

Question, do you know Matt Tolsma?
Just curious. He is a junior this year.

No, that's ok.
He went to school with my brother, '03, and he was a pest to me.
He started my nickname all over school, and that's what people referred to me as...

"Shepard's Lil' Sister."

I didn't like it too much, as I was a freshman and my brother was a senior.

So, yeah, as I said, I haven't seen him in a while and I was wondering if anyone knows him.

:saint:

That is all.
