Frankcdnj
I found this survey and I find it very depressing as to how society has declined in its moral values. I had no idea it was this bad.. But as always surveys do have a margin of error. Just very sad... Frank These are numbers for partners in their life, one at a time. Frankcdnj
Hello All, I should have posted this earlier. I spoke to a priest I know at a university and he said as sad as it seems these numbers are true. I questioned him and said well maybe you are focusing on some other facts. He said no, these numbers are accurate and that the morality of young people has declined drastically in the past 30 years. Some as we all know do not even perceive some sex acts as sex or losing one's virginity. I told him that is just great, so the hopes of me meeting a virtuous woman has hit the fan. And I was hoping these numbers were wrong. As they say, live and learn. Frank Edited December 4, 2003 by Frankcdnj

Aloysius
i think it's sooooo kewl how you get like all your info from your priest and stuff. you seem to have a great relationship with him!!!! :D B) anyway, i'm not that surprised from what i've seen of my own public skewl and all the garbage on TV and all over the internet... morality seems to be a foreign concept to a lot o ppl in my skewl. the subject of sins came up in conversation (ok, so maybe i subtly influenced the direction of the convo a lil... ) anyway, i happened to mention premarital sex was a sin.. and this girl was STUNNED, literally. SHE HAD NEVER EVER HEARD THAT BEFORE. EVER. wow. and she'z actually sposedta be Catholic. God help us all.

nikkan_hanil
You think THAT smells of elderberries? TeenPeople Magazine (December 2001...I think...) said that 52% of teens have had sexual activity before. <_<
Ash Wednesday
I told him that is just great, so the hopes of me meeting a virtuous woman has hit the fan. Hey Frank, don't worry! Can you imagine how it is for us girls? Generally if you wish to hook up with a good, God-loving Catholic girl, and you finally meet her, chances are she will be a virtuous one, too. St. Raphael is good at helping you find one.
Frankcdnj
Yes, but you have to watch what survey you are looking at. The national surveys where I got my numbers from are more accurate. More than likely TEEN magazine surveyed readers and those numbers can be skewed. I have had several statistics courses and they can really fudge numbers by the way a question is asked to how the numbers are compiled. But I hope everyone in this forum and your friends wait till marriage for sex. Do not do as Hollywood does. Stand by your own convictions. Hey I am a lot older than most on this board and I am a virgin. And I could careless what others thought. Plus, if I never get married I will die this way. hopeful1
SHE NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE. EVER. wow. and she'z actually sposedta be Catholic. God help us all. WOW! I don't know wether to feel to feel sorry for the girl or think her to be an idiot. Even nonrelgious people know that most religions consider that to be a sin ( talking about the 3 major montheistic ones) or at least deviant behavior. well that is sad, and kind of makes me wonder if i ever will find a nice guy with morals too... however, we also gotta remember not to judge these people either. maybe alot of this has to do with poor self image too, and the carp the media shoves down our throats doesn't help. on the bright side, a friend of mine confessed to me a while back that he lost his virginity when he was thirteen (he's almost 17 now), and it really shocked me because he's always been very respectful around girls and i never would've guessed. although from his side of the story, it seems like most of it was girls pressuring him and he doesn't know how to deal with the unwanted attention, but he does feel really bad and wants to change. I think i even helped talking him into going to confession ( i don't know if he's gone yet though, he's really busy with school, church, bands, working and helping his elderly parents, not that it's any excuse of course. maybe i'll bring it up again, but i'll have to think of a way to do it sensitively). anyway the point i am making is that there is hope. just pray for these people
Frankcdnj
You are right, Hopeful. The "evil one" is quite manipulative. He makes the human body very enticing and well we all know where that leads. And again, the media is responsible for the decline in the morals of society. As you said the garbage that is on television and in the theater is just disgusting and all most wicked. But we are all sinners in our "human condition" with different crosses to handle. Of course some have more temptation than others. All we can do is pray for them and ask God to grant them pardon for their sins. P.S. I had the opportunity to meet two adult porn stars. Male and female, they told me they enjoyed their work because it serves a purpose. Plus, both told me they have had sex with several hundred people. No kidding here. It is amazing how the evil one can have people so enveloped in sin that they do not see it as a sin. Now all you young people stay away from PORN. It will destroy your mind and soul. I met them at a convention which I did and did not want to attend. But I had to go for a business obligation. But, NO I am not in the porn business. Ash Wednesday
As me and my girl friends in high school used to say, "V-POWER!" B) I was on a plane to Europe last summer and I heard some teens in the back of the plane laughing at an article in a teen magazine about sex -- they were laughing at a quote where the teen stated that sex was a gift from God and that he/she believed in waiting until marriage. These teens actually LAUGHED at this and said, "How is it a gift from God? Even animals have sex!" I couldn't help but wonder if these teens would have also been comfortable sleeping naked in the woods and eating bugs for dinner. Animals do that, too! Animals do that, too! sad that i went to a catholic school, and most of the people there thought the idea of waiting till marriage was considered "pointless" or "insane" and the only ones that do are the ugly chicks. i remember awhile back reading an article online from Time magazine about how Virginity is supposedly making a comeback with teens and it made me really happy. Then the next day in my speech and debate class the kids were "researching" for the next paper and found the article and ripped on it. They even made fun of some guy in the article that claimed he claimed a second virginity, and commented how much money the gov. wastes on abstinence education....it was a very depressing day :(
Frankcdnj
Very well said Ash Wednesday and Hopeful. We all have to believe in what is below. And yes the animals have the urge for sex but humans have a free will to decide if it is right or wrong at the time. Again, some people live by their passions and have no self-restraint. Rom 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to [his] purpose. Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Rom 8:30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
