zunshynn
Why do bishops wear their funky hat things during mass, but not other men? And how come Hebrew men wore their heads covered in the temple, but then it changed to women that should cover their heads?
Pio Nono
JMJ 3/2 - Thursday after Ash Wednesday zunshynn, The mitre (that cool lookin' pointy hat) is proper to the bishop, as it is a symbol of his teaching office. Latin Rite "archpriests" in the old sense, if any are still alive, are also capable of wearing a mitre twice a year as a symbol of the bishop's authority within the community. The Latin Church no longer appoints archpriests. As for the other thing, I have no idea. But it seems to have occurred early, since St. Paul refers to it. Hope this helps.
