Era Might
Golda Meir, Israeli ambassador to the United Nations in 1958, summed up the role Pius XII played during World War II:
When fearful martyrdom came to our people in the decade of Nazi terror, the voice of the pope was raised for the victims. The life of our times was enriched by a voice speaking out on the great moral truths above the tumult of daily conflict. We mourn a great servant of peace. --Condolences sent after the death of Pius XII, 1958
Edited October 23, 2005 by Era Might

dspen2005
any culpability attributed to the Pope is that which is attributed to us all.... as a collective humanity -- Jew and Gentile, alike

dspen2005
i would argue that the Pope, as with all of us - in the collective sense -- are responsible for the Holocaust. However, I will not go so far as to place blame on the Pope in any specific, individualized manner -- he helped alot of Jews in Rome -- there are a few good books about it, some written by Jews, themselves. Aloysius
yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not responsible for the holocaust. though I don't remember what I was doing in the 1930's and 1940's

There is no collective guilt about it.
