I love Sacred Music. I think historically it is just more artistic, in general!

There are so many beautiful sacred works, but some of my faves are:

Faure's Requiem, Cantique de Jean Racine and Messe Basse

Palestrina's Missa Papae Marcelli, and Missa Pro Defunctis

Alonso Lobo's Ave Maria

Thomas Tallis's Spem in Alium.

^ In no particular order. :)

(I would have put this in the music forum but they only respond to contemporary music there! :P: )

I just listened to the first part. It's gorgeous, but a bit melodramatic compared to the stuff I usually listen to. I'm generally turned off by Classical and Romantic composers. The former sounds pompous, and the latter is a bit melodramatic. Faure is Romantic, but his music is gentle and "humble." (Can't think of a better word. :) ).

I love Poulenc's Gloria . :dancer2:  :twist: actually performed the piece with my skool's choir last fall. WAS VERY GOOD. Also like Verdi's Requiem xcept that he wasn't a true catholic [so I heard].

I agree

I like the music of Marty Haugen! Just kidding.
Some of my favorites are:

Poulenc's Gloria
Faure's Requiem
Pergolesi's Magnificat
Mozart's Ave Verum Corpus
Palestrina's Stabat Mater, Sicut Cervus
Josquin Desprez is cool too.

I also enjoyed the Verdi Requiem even though he was an anti-Catholic meanie. We sant it in chorus last semester and it is so fun to sing, especially the Dies Irae. I wish I knew more about some of the faith backgrounds of composers of sacred music.

After I graudate (provided that I graduate, God willing!) I want to sing in a choir that performs sacred music. None of this Marty Haugen nonsense.

Right now I'm listening to an ancient Stabat. I like it. I don't know who the composer is. It's from an album called, "The Crown of Thorns/The Eton Choirbook Vol. I" By the Sixteen and Harry Christophers. (I had never heard of them, but I might start checking out more of their stuff!).

Pray for the conversions of Serafina and Tom Hall. I just found out from talking to Serafina after chamber singers that she hasn't been going to Mass :(

It's GORGEOUS when it's sung with a white tone. I once heard a version that sounded kind of like Copeland was conducting it. GORGEOUS!

oh, YES.... now I see what you're saying. yes, that is gorgeous... ^_^

there was a period of time when I thought I was a soprano, and that it was in my range. that would not have been gorgeous.
