M.SIGGA
Silent No More: A Major Crisis in the African-American Community By Rev. John J. Raphael, SSJ Roman Catholic Chaplain Howard University, Washington, DC Do you know what the leading cause of death in the African American Community since 1973 is? Think about it for a minute. Is it heart disease-2,266,789 deaths since 1973, cancer-1,638,350, or accidents-370,723? Is it AIDS-203,695, or violent crimes-306, 313? There is one possibility that is often overlooked. It happens 1452 times a day in our community. It has taken over 13 million Black lives within the last 30 years. It has taken 1/3 of our present population. What is it? ABORTION! Don't believe it? Well, you don't have to, but you would be a fool not to because the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has provided the tragic statistics. According to the CDC, since 1973, the year of the Supreme Court Decision Roe vs. Wade, 13 million (13,000,000) African American lives have been lost to abortion. The CDC reports that of the approximately 4000 abortions that are performed daily in the United States, 1452 of them are performed on African American women and their pre-born children. This means that although African Americans represent only 12% of the population of the United States, they account for 35% of the abortions performed in this country. Any comments? Anna
Oh, my goodness, how tragic. Where is Aloyisius? We need a diagram, or a graph, using these statistics. That is a sad and alarming statistic, inDouche. Margaret Sanger must be very pleased with herself. Pax Christi. <><
FaustinaVianney
I've hear that stat before. I volunteer at a pregnancy center in downtown Cinci, which has mostly african-american clientel. Okay, I don't mean this in a bad way, but maybe it could be something to spark something up in someone..if the African-American popluation don't care for their own people (meaning abortion), than why would other races??? As Christians we shouldn't care about race, but we can't deny that so many others out there do, which breaks my heart. The really sad thing is that there are quite a few people willing to help those that need financial assistance, etc. The problem is that those that want to help aren't known to those that need help. We have to get the word out to these people, so that they will stop killing their children!! *HUGS-n-PEACE* :)
Anna
If you work in a crisis pregnancy center, then you already know that someone in a "crisis" situation acts out of desperation. Desperate situations call for desperate measures. They see abortion as their only hope. And after all, peeps who have money are putting up abortion clinics, not day care centers. And a $300-$500 d&e (dilation and extraction, or "suction" method) abortion sounds more affordable than having a mouth to feed for 18 years. When the peeps with money come strolling into the neighborhoods, they aren't necessarily helping these desperate women chose life. I think one very important way to reach these folks is to get area pastors involved, and to work with them in assisting anyone they may refer. If every inner-city pro-life center had a big poster of the statistics graph a la Aloyisius, showing how Black American women are destroying their race, with the help of affluent white doctors, it might just shock them. It might just help them to see and realize that something has to change. And change begins with one little life at a time. Pax Christi. <>< Al? Oh, Al???? Better get working on that diagram, man!!!!!! It could save lives!!!!!
hyperdulia again
that's an odd statistic when you compare it to the huge prevelance of religious practice in the african-american community...i don't doubt it, it just surprises me.
Spiritual_Arsonist
I bet if you showed this to a bunch of Fems, their animal instincts would kick in and they'd claw you to death. Thanks for sharing. Tragic fact.

LTNgurl
not to be nosey(sp?) but i over heard two african-american ladies disccusing abortion...one asked the other "how many times have you aborted?" and she said "5 times" with no sign of regret... and then the other lady said "today was my second time" i was so shocked, i didnt want to hear anymore so i kept on walking. (this was in DC by a planned parenthood clinic) <_<
geetarplayer
The bittersweet thing about it is that when race becomes an issue it suddenly becomes so much more important. This might be what pro-life supporters need to finally ban it... hopefully. Sad that it would take a minority to suddenly make people "care" about unborn babies. -Mark
God Conquers
AMEN. Finally people are beginning to see the eugenics links inherent in contraception and abortion. It's been there from the beginning. Where are most abortion clinics to be found? It isn't surprising that they're in POOR, IMMIGRANT/NON-WHITE, communities. Also, feminists should think twice and look at abortion statistics in Indian and Asian communities, female children are aborted at twice the rate male children are.
