Anastasia13
I got written up three times for things I asked about. This kind of write up has more impact on whether or not I stay employed. I know that for the regular cashiering write-ups, you can only get five and they take you off the register for a while. I'm going to talk with the store manager on Tuesday, but prayer would be good. I got written up for things I was expected to know but I asked about. The first I was not trained on and didn't want to just randomly guess about. I should have remembered to say on the paperwork that I was never trained on and had no actual experience for but forgot that part in the comment section. It was a gift receipt and is considered a standard operation that I should know since I've worked there for three months. Gift receipts are just a basic operation. I just wasn't sure of myself and didn't want to mess anything up and have to have it redone. I've only done two other transactions with it and those the manager ended up doing it after the transaction was completed. The second had only come up once before and I didn't see the validation stamps for hunting licenses and I didn't remember how that worked, so I asked. The other, I asked what to do to fill out a return form if I didn't have the receipt information.
Guest T-Bone
Prayers... You shouldn't be written up for things that you asked about.
Anastasia13
I was written up because I was expected to know because I've worked there for three months. The validation sticker for the hunting license one has come up a grand total of once in three months.

Laudate_Dominum
dang, that is lame. I think you did the right thing by asking and that they are dumb for basically punishing you for that. It's normal to be unsure about procedures and things that one does not do every day. sheesh. And if you "should have known" then I suppose they are at fault for not providing you with adequate training. They should write themselves up darn it. Jobs are so lame.. I wish I could be a warrior-poet instead of a wage slave.. *sigh*
Anastasia13
I was retrained the other day because I'm not as fast on the register (and this did not include gift receipts). The girl who did the retraining and has been there a year said something about doing things the right way and not just the way I think something should be done. (Really nice when making sure I do it the right way gets me written up.) They want me better soon because November through January are the busiest times of the year. I'm probably the least certain cashier there with the exception of the new girl who started in the last two weeks. Part of me almost wonders if I really even belong there. There is another store a couple more miles from my home that I might ask to be transfered to if I get written up like that again, but if it is a five write-up limit for this kind as well, then that would leave me on my last chance in which case I would want to deal more with looking for a new job, probably a clerical one, before I get fired. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. (And at this rate I'm not too thrilled with the uncertain fate of my employment at a place that I liked, cared about, and thought was a good store.) I don't know why things like that keep coming up where I'm not sure about what to do, but I thought I was starting to do a little better. I actually learned how to do a lay-away within the last week or two. It never came up before. I didn't think it would be a much of an issue to ask about what to do with the card and no number which has come up a whole one time in three months and I think there may have been some miscommunication or at least in my oppinion a little over reaction to my question about what to did and didn't know about the return forms. After getting written up yesterday, I pulled out a notebook and started recording anything that I wasn't sure of so that I would have the memory aid of writing it out and also keeping track for later so that I could review and I included gift receipts. I just got over feeling like a failure at my job yesterday. (I also didn't know that some man in certain uniform that remined me a postman had a truck full of memory and the one who tolled me said he was angry that he had to wait so long to see the manager because their trucks get robbed quickly and I should have called manger to the front as soon as he got there. It was also noted by that other cashier that I had accidentally taken too long on my ten minute break.) After that, getting the two write-ups like that today was kind of depressing. The full time cashier who is newer to our store was the one who had me written up. The other day she had said something about how she is supposed to be our boss but that is hard for her because she's so nice. (And she was nice. I liked her, at least then.) She is supposed to be sort of our boss and she was in trouble at least because some of the hunting licenses without the license number. She was supposed to do a couple of things like in response to that. I'm guessing whatever happened where that came up with her was why I'm getting written up by her, but I'm not sure about the first one since she wasn't there until just before I left. It's like all of a sudden though, I've lost the security of being able to ask but I don't want to mess anything up and cause even more problems. Brother Adam
I agree that business sounds idiotic. business owners are taking the 'employers market' thing to an unhealthy extreme. Punsihing people for asking to make sure? Who said "Give me a break"? Give me a break.
Nathan
Whoa, your boss is sure trigger-happy with the write-ups! That's just crazy. At my work, people get written-up, but it's only for things like not showing up for shifts without calling in, or telling a customer off. Granted, we're unionized -- I could urinate on my bosses desk and not be fired.
onathing1
omg! the way you described your work sounds just like mine!! you get in trouble for the dumbest things, and if you do something wrong, ANYTHING wrong, you go on the bottom of the schedule, and my boss gives you almost no hours. if you ask me, that's no way to run a business!! but yeah, i will pray for you, because after my little 'balloon' incident, i definately know what your going through!! philothea
They're trying to cover their backsides so they have an excuse to fire anyone at any time. It's very lame. I suspect you might be able to find a different environment. Maybe start looking for better jobs now before they do something foolish? Prayers for you. megrc
Wow, listening to you guys talk about your jobs gives me a new appreciation for mine. I was starting to hate my job because I don't feel like they appreciate anything that I do and I hardly ever see my boss. I guess putting up with a few angry parents isn't so bad after all. Thanks guys. By the way, I'm sorry about you getting written up all those times Light and Truth. But I hope it all works out with the store manager. Anastasia13
The full time cashier was told that I had to be written up when we were there on Sunday. I guess that is like what happened on Saturday, though I don’t think she was there. The store manager is going to talk to his boss about the write-ups since they were sent in already and next Sunday I will go in for training under the full time cashier. I had to promise the store manager that I will be faster at cashiering though-getting the customers’ purchases rung up and paid for and stuff. That is something that will be really important, especially in the next couple of months. Please pray that I succeed well in being a faster, better cashier who processes customers quickly enough.
