Exorcism

I've been reading Fr. Gabriel Amorth's book An Exorcist Tells His Story (Ignatius Press), and I must say, I am intrigued. I understand that the Church officially still holds that exorcism is the real deal... but just how common (or rare) is it today in practice?

I get the impression that if one were to seriously approach their diocese (or their local Jesuit Province) about an exorcist they would probably be laughed at, or at least thought of as a crazy person.

Thanks.

The statistics are not kept, however, I would venture to guess that it is pretty rare. If you are reading the book, you'll certainly know that the criteria are pretty stringent.

With that being said, I strongly suggest (as a priest suggested to me) not to inquire too much about this topic. It is a dangerous road and one that can lead to things that are unholy. This charism is for a very few blessed priests and not for the ordinary layperson to be interested in....

Just some friendly advice......take it for what it is worth.
