Nathan
A woman I know, a lifelong Baptist, is currently in the process of becoming Catholic. Her longtime husband is a lifelong Catholic -- apparently they were married in a civil union, outside of the Church, many, many years ago. Now, upon finding out that this Catholic/Baptist couple were married outside of the Church, the husband has been denied communion by the parish they attend. Obviously, he is upset. My question is, what does this woman's husband need to do to be able to receive communion again? Would this situation be rectified once the wife becomes Catholic? Or is he, for lack of a better term, screwed? Thanks.
cappie
If either the wife or the husband have never been previously married to another person then the marriage can be convalidated in a Catholic church as soon as possible, and the husband would be able to receive Communion. He should see his pastor.
