Cool site for bikers/runners/walkers

OK, I don't have an odometer/spedometer on my bike, because I couldn't figure out how to hook it up and have it work. So I've pretty much been estimating how far I've ridden on various rides. Until now!

For those of you wondering, "How far did I run?" this is a great tool. Love it! It's relatively easy to figure out how to use it (as in, I could figure it out).

Yeah, I don't run either. I do, however, enjoy cycling.

Walking is awesome, so is biking (though I don't own one). According to this, if I walked up and down our driveway at least 2 3/4 times, it would add up to a mile! :

Living out in the country with small skinny roads, and wild animals (including stray dogs), it isn't safe to walk or ride a bike in this area. Good thing we have a long driveway at least.

I biked on one of our greenways at night (paved rails-to-trails paths) and saw packs of dogs. Never did that again. I stick to streets when I bike at night ... actually, I stick to streets when I bike most of the time. The greenways are nicer, but I like the longer stretches of uninterrupted riding that streets provide.

Not to mention, [b]WHEN YOU HAVE DEER EVERYWHERE![/b]

Last night, we had a group of 4 or 5 deer right next to our shed, which is only about 40-50 feet away from the house. A week before that, near the same place too.

Our dog barks at stray dogs, toads, possems (typo), and other humans, but not at deer.

Yeah, I don't see deer much where I usually ride. I've gone a handful of times to Eagle Creek State Park and seen deer. I love riding over there.

I'm not too worried about being chased by killer deer, though. Strange potentially rabid dogs, yes. Deer, not so much.

I've contemplated carrying some form of spray with me, but never done it. I'm not, perhaps, as concerned about safety as I should be ... I'm doing well to have a light with me and to wear my helmet.

Do you really not know how to ride? I can remember the first time I learned how to do it. My grandpa taught me how. I was so excited to be actually riding a bike that I turned around to smile at him, hit a rock, and promptly crashed and burned.

I didn't re-discover my love of riding until a year ago, and I've been doing it ever since. If I ever move, I'm going to be sure to move someplace that has good bike routes.

It's OK, Carrie ... I love biking, but you can still live a mostly happy, fulfilled life if you've never done it or don't enjoy it.
