Sometimes the simmplest statements can have the most effect during a debate because of time limits.

from your statements; the positions are clear. You are trying to prevent consequences, while your opponents are trying to deal with consequences.

Logially, it is always good to try and avoid consequences, and should they happen nonetheless, then be ready to deal with them. But you should at least try to avoid to start.
