What are the best active orders for women... I mean, that are active, but orthodox, faithful to the pope, and possibly wear a habit?

IMHO, the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist and theDominican Sisters of St Cecilia congregation and theSister Servants of the Eternal Word are the BEST! lol, but I am biased!!!!!!!

Edit to add

Oooooops! remember....pray about what spirituality and charism "fits" for you. That is really important....

I would say the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word (yeah, I'm biased! :D: )

I also recommend the Martyrs in Alton and the Sister Servants of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus.

I have a friend entering the Capuchin Sisters of Nazareth (http://www.penitents.org/capuchinsisters.html), and I have friends in the Carmelites in Alhambra, the Intercessors of the Lamb, and the TOR Sisters near Steubenville, and they are pretyt happy, so I'd say they are cool, too.

That's what I was about to say ^^^

The SSEW are an apostolic Order, but they aren't very active. They're mostly monastic unless their giving a retreat.

The best active orders are the ones that you're called to! :saint:

I've posted this website over and over -- all of the orders are orthodox, faithful to the pope, and wear a habit of some kind.

I'm praying for all of you in your search! :topsy: :lol_roll: :D: :saint: ;)

The best active order is the one you are called to! I totally agree.

The Dominican Nuns aren't active they are cloistered contemplatives.
Active and Contemplative aren't about the things you do all day but about a way of life. Monastic is also a specific way of life. Nashville and the SSEW have monastic elements but they are not monastic. Dominican cloistered nuns are not strictly monastic as Benedictines are but they are sort of like them and less like Carmelites or Poor Clares or Visitation.

Oh, I'm confusing myself! :annoyed: :annoyed: :( :o :topsy:

I've heard great things about the Sisters of Reparation. I believe somebody was looking for them awhile ago..black habit, red cincture.

They are "freaking" awesome! (excuse the language sisters) I met two of them at the Vocations Camp in June in Brainard, MN.

One of the was also named Sister Carly, but she is now a novice, the other was Sister Mary Peter the third funniest sister I have ever known in my life.

I've been reading about Carthusian monks and nuns in Robin Bruce Lockhart's great and revealing book Halfway to Heaven: The Hidden Life of the Sublime Carthusians. I am amazed at the lives of intense prayer that these men and women lead; it sounds like a truly awesome order (and one that, I must say, I am feeling an attraction toward). The Carthusians are, without a doubt, the most isolated (in the best possible sense of the word) of the cloistered contemplative orders. One of the Church's oldest religious orders, they have hardly changed a bit since it was founded by St. Bruno in the 11th century -- a matter of pride, I am sure. As far as orthodoxy goes, it doesn't get much more orthodox than the Carthusians.

Here's their main website:
