Did Jesus know He was God?

I have had an exchange with someone who contends that Jesus while having two natures, being fully human and fully divine, He in his humanity did not fully know the whole story of His mission of salvation for the world. That is to say, it came to Him in dribs and drabs as it were.
This collegue of mine cites the exhange between Jesus and the Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22. The woman asks mercy and pleads for Jesus to disposess her daughter of a demon. He answered, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of the house of Israel." But she came and knelt before him, saying, "Lord, help me." 26 And he answered, "It is not fair to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs." 27 She said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table." 28 Then Jesus answered her, "O woman, great is your faith! Be it done for you as you desire." And her daughter was healed instantly.

My friend contends that Jesus up to this encounter, saw His mission as being only for the Jews, but after being challenged by the inequity and this woman's persisence and faith, Jesus enlarges the scope of his mission to everyone.

I say not. Jesus fully knew His mission, certainly by the time of His public life. He did not have a eureka moment after meeting the Canaanite woman. The encounter was more to demonstate the universality of His saving mission and the importance and power of faith, not time to rewrite his mission statement.

Do I have it right or does my friend?
