Duc_In_Altum
Last friday, i was walking the strip in Lawrence, KS with some Benedictine College peeps and we came across a masonic temple. I'm now a little curious to see what they're really about. I've heard a lot of things in the past and there seems to be nothing objective online. No, i'm in no way looking to join, i just am a bit curious about them. Does anyone know anything objective about their structure/ history/ theology/ mission, etc....? God Bless. -Joe

Nathan
My dad is one. So's my grandfather. Neither of them attend the functions anymore, but they're full members.

thessalonian
I am sure I won't have much to say that wasn't covered in phat's articles but here goes. The religous philosophy of Masons is one of Deism. Many of the founding fathers of this country were Masons. They believe their is a God, however they are indifferentist with regard to various religions and their understanding of him. That is perhaps the biggest qualm the Catholic Church has against them. They are a brotherhood of men and that is okay. But they have blood oaths and that is also problematic with regard to the Catholic Church. They are an organization of men, however there are organizations for women that are afflicated with them, Eastern Star for adult women, and Job's Daughters for younger girls. They are also the organization behind the Shriners and the Shrine Circus, and Shriners Hospitals. Thus I will not take my kids to the SC or SH's. The Knights of Columbus as an organization was actually formed to keep Catholic men from joining the Masons. Blessings
dspen2005
here in philadelphia is a massive temple, that is, from what i've been told, is the "birthplace" of masonry in the US. even more scary about this is that the "temple" is within walking distance of the Cathedral.... watch out!!!!
