peach_cube
Muschi, A book that may be helpful in dealing with attacks on the sex scandal is "The Courage to be Catholic: Crisis, Reform, and the Future of the Church" by George Weigel. It is currently in hardback and can even be found at Borders or Barnes and Noble. I am currently reading it and have found that it really puts the crisis in the correct light. phatcatholic
this type of thread would be right at home in the apologetics board.........but i digress :D how is it going w/ rick, muschi? What is he trying to prove w/ his argument that the Church knew about this scandal? If he is trying to prove that the Church is not infallible or that it is not the Church of Christ, then he needs a crash course in infallibility. priests, bishops, cardinals, and even popes (gasp!) are sinners just like you and i. the church has always believed this. so, for him to point this out proves nothing. what you have to do is show him that his argument is pointless. the beahavior of the Church leadership does nothing to discredit its ability to speak infallibly on matters of faith or morals. it is then--and only then--that the Church is protected by the Holy Spirit from ever falling into error. unfortunately, some w/in the hierarchy don't practice what they preach, but that has always been the case from the very beginning...........yet the Church still thrives. good luck Muschi and let us know if you need anymore help, phatcatholic
phatcatholic
btw, show him the catechism, where the Church explicitly condemns sexual misconduct of any kind. its the doctrine that matters, and this doctrine has always been sound and true. Muschi
To all: I've said it before, but I'm going to say it again. I'm so glad to be on "phriendly" turf!!! Everyone of you on the various boards of this site have had a positive influence on me to the extent that your enthusiasm and joy in our shared faith "recharges" my batteries so to speak. I'm very greatful. However, I am beginning to finally think that I may be beating a dead horse when it comes to dealing with Rick Jones. Phatcatholic, I could refer him to the Catechism, but Ironmonk can also bear witness to this: he has written a book or rather a long polemic article using the Catechism to supposedly show how far the Catholic Church strays from the Bible. In my own enthusiasm and new-found love of the Catholic Church I like Ironmonk decided to take him up on his challenge that if he has printed anything regarding our church in error that he would change his book. That was nothing more than baiting as he has no intention of changing his book and continues to stand strongly by what he has written to this day. The ONLY reason I haven't given up on him at this point is because we have somehow by the grace of God found a way to communicate amicably. I've even been invited down to Chick Publications if I'm ever in the area. They are in So. California while I live up north. I might take him up on the offer, but I won't go "unarmed" so to speak. I'm going to drop some tracts of my own in various places as I am allowed if I ever make that trip. I'm in no hurry though. Maybe if we all pledge one decade of the Rosary for him each day?.......hmmmm What do you all think? - Michelle
