If both of you have any friends in common, I'd suggest going out as a group. It takes away so much of the pressure to impress your date. In that kind of situation, you will stay true to who you are because you won't be so worried about impressing this girl. But then again, you said that you've been talking with this girl for a while, so maybe that first date pressure won't exist, or at least be very minimal.

Do something fun--bowling, lazer tag, go-karts.
