argent_paladin
No...just for keeping unqualified seminarians out.
Unfortunately, psych tests have been used to keep orthodox seminarians out. It is quite easy to do since the vast majority of psychologists think that voluntary celibacy is a symptom of mental illness, that orthodoxy is a sign of rigidity and that obedience is a sign of immaturity. Therefore, liberal seminaries can say that they are screening out the unfit, without saying that they have a bias. Very sad. It is in fact hard to find a solid, faithful psychologist who agrees with the Church on all important matters.
cmotherofpirl
There is always a catch if you look hard enough. Our seminaries in the Pittsburgh area are undergoing the scutinies by the Vatican now.
Fidei Defensor
I also hope that there will not be a generalized appraoch and that each seminarian will be handled in a charitiable way and on an individual basis.
Exactly.

MC Just
also, the Vatican is gonna have to dig deeper, many of the seminaries, called "pink palaces" are going to diguise themselves as orthodox so they wont be detected.

Pio Nono
JMJ 9/19 - St. Januarius
also, the Vatican is gonna have to dig deeper, many of the seminaries, called "pink palaces" are going to diguise themselves as orthodox so they wont be detected.
I personally take offense at this. That's all I'll say about it. And yes, as a part of the board examinations to enter a seminary, a man is asked whether he is a homosexual - at least that's the process here at Mundelein. What they do with the information, I don't know. But, if you think about it...if a guy wants to get ordained bad enough, he just might be willing to lie about his sexual orientation. Just a thought.

I think this move by the Holy Father will help to breech grievances held against the Church for the priestly scandals of a few years ago.

Joey1976
I knew a Priest who said that went he went into the seminary a lot of gay seminarians would hit on him and he left but ended up going back and becoming a Priest. But he said he couldn't rat on them but now i think they are allowing seminarians to tell about if they see gay tendancies but they will remain anonymous if they tell on someone. The Church is reforming and that is good. There is hope. Praise God that we belong to Jesus' Church.

Some have emphasized the need for "manly recreation" in seminaries - preferrably something where the pansies can get beat to a pulp!
shortnun
Hi all, new here so please bare with me as I get used to posting replys. I agree with the questions that have been posed so far- how does the Vatican plan on coming up with concrete criteria that must be "met" or "broken" as a means of controlling enterence to the priesthood? Furthermore, is this going too far? I am reminded of the Church's pastoral teachings on the matter of homosexuality- that it is not the person the chuch disapproves of, nor their thoughts, but rather their actions. The sins that the celebrant (the priest) has committed do not impact the validity of the sacraments administer. I am in full support of the psychological and other tests that religious priests, brothers, and sisters must endure as a part of their vocation, but it concerns me that the church is focusing on such a minute detail that seems hard to regulate. Glad to see such great topics of conversation around here- what a gift to the theological conversations of the church.

Ah, the sweet smell of charity. Yes, beating someone to a pulp is the essence of true manhood and holiness so often exhibited by the great saints. No wonder women can't be priests--not enough upper body strength.
