Sojourner
OK, so I have a cold, which I caught from one of my co-workers, and so naturally I'm wondering how much snot I am producing, since it seems to be copious amounts. So I went to The Straight Dope and learned that "one experiment showed that on the peak day of a cold the average person produces about 14 grams of drippings, or roughly half an ounce." Now, I am sure I once read that it was closer to a liter a day, which seems much more reasonable given the number of tissues I've gone through. Anyone else care to weigh in their guesstimate? zabbazooey
I heard daily you have about one liter a day of mucus but maybe they mean half an ounce extra mucus? I don't know. I wouldn't believe that....

As an aside, but on a related topic, in our last legislative session they enacted a law that you can't buy cold medicine with showing a driver's license (or state ID) and signing something. It's in an effort to control meth production, but I have to say that it's a royal pain for the vast majority of people who are producing copious quantities of snot rather than copious quantities of meth. zabbazooey
Yeah I heard that too. I think it's mainly for buyers of Sudafed? I know you can't buy that OTC without an ID anymore...

Meth has gotten to be a pretty big problem.
