I'm an Eagles supporter but you know what - because the Swans haven't won the flag in 72 years I'm kinda hoping they win. Is that weird or what?

I'm not sure, it depends.
There's a lot of teams that haven't won a flag in a long time, and the saints and the bulldogs have only won it once.

I have this odd mental image of an eagle and a swan fighting. :hehe: Could an eagle swoop down and carry off a swan? They're pretty big.... Hmmm....

And since I know of neither team, I will flip a coin.

Hmmm.... looks like I am officially a Swans fan.

Cardinal George Pell told the National Press Club in Canberra yesterday that he was satisfied that the downgrading of the striking charge of Sydney Swans AFL captain Barry Hall represented a just outcome.

"I've seen Barry Hall play many times and he's a big, tough fella," he said. "If he'd given that chap a decent whack he wouldn't have been rolling around and carrying on, he would have gone straight down.

"It was a playful little nudge and I've got no doubt whatsoever that complete justice was done."

Pell blessing for Sydney Swans

Cardinal George Pell has given his support to the Sydney Swans AFL football team, which faces the West Coast Eagles in this weekend's Grand Final.

"May the best team win ... and I'm sure that's the Swans," Archbishop of Sydney Cardinal George Pell told the Daily Telegraph.

"I think we should also say a little prayer that the umpires should give us a few good decisions for a change," he said.

Although he is vice-patron of Richmond, the Telegraph describes Cardinal Pell as "among the highest order of Swans' fans", adding the he "knows every word of the team anthem".

He told the paper that the same tune was the official song at his old school – St Patrick's College, Ballarat.

And after two thrilling victories in the past fortnight, there's been ample opportunity to break into hymn.

Cardinal Pell, however, says the close nature of the victories has made him feel like looking skywards for help.

"I will certainly say a little prayer for them this week, especially if it's close again at three-quarter time."
