My apologies to Brother Adam for the Protestant Hangover comment. Though not intended to be offensive I can see where it was. It was uncalled for. I have the utmost respect for BA and his walk toward and in the Catholic faith inspires me.

God bless

a person cannot be in a state of mortal sin "by accident". by its very definition mortal sin is intentional (i.e., FULL knowledge and FULL consent of the will).

what if ur not sure?

lets take it step by step

i went to confession on saturday

i was in the confessional and i didn't know if one sin i had written down was mortal or not. and i was also embarressed to say it so i ommited. i also forgot to confess my mortal sins in number..... and than i recieved communion after coming late to mass. Today i think (if i wasn't already) got myself into mortal sin.

is cursing a mortal sin?
how about bieng disrespectful to ones parents?
lying?
being mean nasty and uncharitabile in general?

i must know

Dominus Vobiscum,
sam

well, I'm no priest (and thus, not the one to be able to definitively make a judgment call), but I'd say that as mortal sin is intentional, a person would be sure in such a case.

nonetheless, confession is a good and holy practice for the soul.. so go again, and mention your concerns to the priest and follow his direction and judgment as God's minister of the Sacrament.

Just confess it, if you're not sure. Then you never have to worry about it again.

Culpability extends to negligence (eg, you were able to find out if something were sinful, but were too lazy to do so).

lol, Sam... just go to Confession again and discuss your concerns with the priest hearing your confession. And listen to what he says.... but be completely open and honest with him.

BTW, intentionally omitting a sin from your confession would technically be mortal sin (if you were aware of its gravity). As a general rule, a direct sin against the 10 Commandments is usually considered mortal sin

I don't think cursing is a mortal sin, unless you included God's name...
the last 3 would depend upon circumstances, etc.-- just discuss them with the priest.

And no more omitting anything from your Confession. Just be straight up and honest.

Yah, just spill your guts to a priest, let him know what you've done in the past. You may have to reconfess everything since your last valid confession, if one of them were invalid. Just talk to a priest. He will know how to proceed for you specifically.
