jezic
as much as we might not like them, i think public schools are here to stay. There are things that should be changed about them though. God back in public schools woudl be awesome, but i don't think that is coming back anytime soon. I can see both sides of the coin for schooling. I think it is something to pray about and ask God and then after a good amount of time, do what you feel in the depths of your being is the proper course of action. missionseeker
Curtains you should read the Teenage Liberation Handbook--Grace Llewelynne I'm homeschooled but I have public schooled friends across the entrire state. I swear to you that it';s not as bad as some make it out to be. Anyway I've been to lots of dances and when kids started doing that chaperones litterally go out there and pull them apart if they have to. Maybe that's cuz it's Bible belt??? Socrates
homeschooling? why does everyone resort to homeschooling. I personally think homeschooling is hurting the kids in the long run. They are being sheltered from the world, once they are done with school there gonna be hit hard with reality. My kids will probably end up going to a Catholic High School or if there isnt one around a Public School (yes the devil himself). Its about teaching children how to live in the world that we are in, not to shelter them from the world so that they have a huge hit with reality later. this is my personal opinion, debate with me all you want
I was homeschooled in my highschool years and went to an orthodox Catholic college. Yeah, people will say I'm "sheltered" and whatnot. I also know many people who've homeschooled. I'd say whether to homeschool or not is a decision best made on an individual basis - I don't think everyone should homeschool their kids, nor am I against it on principle. But as one familiar with homeschooling, I must say a lot of the stereotypical ideas people have about homeschoolers are generally false (i.e. that they're all a bunch of ultra-sheltered, unsocialized naifs unable to deal with the "real world.") Most homeschoolers I know are not significantly different from non-homeschooled kids, and many as adults are quite successful and well-adjusted (yeah, I'm an exception to this ) Homeschoolers on average do much better academically than those who went to public schools. But Catholic homeschoolers also generally have better moral values than other kids. Is it really necessary for kids to be raised in a moral cesspool to "prepare" them for the "real world"? Moral formation is most effective at an early age. It is generally easier to maintain one's moral values later in life if these have been well installed at an early age. Most homeschoolers do not live in total isolation from and ignorance of the evils of the world. A lot of people unfamiliar with homeschooling get a skewed idea of what it is. crusader1234
Socials are basically dances... I'm surprised that you weren't aware of what you were getting yourself into. Well, be prepared, because thats highschool. Full of decisions to be made that come in all shades of grey.
curtins
yeah The chaperones were pretty much some teachers or school admins, and student council members and I already told you what the later were doing. I wish the chaperones wooda pulled people apart but they all just sat far from the mass of humping bodies- no one even was walking around or anything like that. I've been to a middle school dance (all the middle school kids in my city) and even there they had chaperones walking around- although that was doing little good. avemaria40
one of my friends was homeschooled up until High School, and he's one of the smartest ppl i know. Also, although he was homeschooled he wasn't that sheltered from reality.
Philippe
I hate the very concept upon which public schooling is founded: that the society and/or the state as a whole ought to provide a child with education. the parents ought to provide the child with education according to the natural order, the real reality.
not everyone can afford to go to private Catholic School and sometimes the schools are just too far. It would be nice to be able to go to Catholic school but for me, its just too far. Also from what i hear, the school is barely Catholic and many of the kids arent Catholic or even practice their faith. Another point is, dont you think there should be some good Catholics at public schools too? Shouldnt there be some people there to evangalize and to share the faith with those who dont know it?
